I have an entire "start collecting" astra militarum box that I haven't touched. I'm a fickle hobbyist

. I'm currently reading "Galaxy in Flames" which is part of the Horus Heresy series.

I also still have an original Space Hulk game, with the Death Wing expansion - and two painted Terminator squads and a shitload of genestealers, that I also got in the 80s. (Of course, since I painted them myself, they don't look great

Dawn of War II is considered the best out there and goes on Steam sale pretty often.

Btw, the Ciaphas Cain novels are pretty awesome.

Final Liberation duplicated the tabletop rules pretty well, with the huge advantage of the computer doing all the bookkeeping, but hasn't aged well.

I would suggest the Gaunt's Ghosts series to start. Not sure if they are still in print, but you could probably snag some on the cheap off Amazon.

Men of War:Assault Squad 2 currently has a few mods out, from a Russian guy, that are based on WH40k.

Somewhat fun, I'm still trying to figure out how to run them in English.
