So was it just me, or did V seem particularly Anti-Obama?

The only hint of that came from the kid being obsessed with the V's. Even then it's a stretch.

I mean the press not asking tough ?'s, them trying to take over through universal health care, the "Bryan Williams" reporter who is told not to ask any tough questions and him going along with it. It all seems very apropos.
Link Posted: 11/3/2009 4:34:04 PM EST
Well, the V's were offering universal health care.

It is not too surprising. Many science fiction authors are conservative and libertarian.

The only one I ever knew to run for public office was Heinlein. Strangely enough, he ran as a democrat. Though, to be fair, that was many decades ago.

I missed the original. I guess I was just having too much fun back then. I will probably watch this one. I don't watch much else on tv, and with the present day climate, it might be interesting.

Lol, i kinda caught a bit of that too...

"spreading hope"

"change is rarely easy"

The thing that's weird is all the roles are reversed...John is a lady and the news reporter is guy...

Speed

ETA: on second thought, the producers/writers of this show probably have no idea of the similarities WE see in a story about Fascist overlords taking over behind the guise of free health care and peaceful unity; using propaganda and promoting "service"etc...

Definitely.

A) No tough questions from the press.

B) Obama pretended to be a Moderate to gain our trust, but underneath his skin of moderatism was a full blown liberal.

C) Universal Health Care is put forward to encourage devotion in order to enslave.

Yeah, totally anti-Obama.

Catchy slogans.

Gaining the support of youth.
Link Posted: 11/3/2009 4:36:58 PM EST
Might be interesting... I may have to start watching the series.

It's a Rorschach test...
Link Posted: 11/3/2009 4:40:31 PM EST
not just you, i thought the same thing many times...
Link Posted: 11/3/2009 4:41:13 PM EST
That stuff was all in the original "V"... Which came along WAY before Obama.

Thought that a few times while watching it...

Link Posted: 11/3/2009 4:42:06 PM EST
Morena Baccarin and Alan Tudyk are both in it. Both were in Firefly.

It is worth watching just for Morena Baccarin, though I admit I did like her better with long hair.

Not that she doesn't look good with short hair. She does.

It doesn't even bother me that she is some kind of reptilian underneath.

I wonder how long they have been working on this, anyway?
Link Posted: 11/3/2009 4:43:37 PM EST
Me and the wife kept looking at each other like WTF, that is just like the Obama administration. From the press, to the admiring followers, even the sleeper cell which is like the Marxist's in our government now, just waiting for the right time to take over.
Link Posted: 11/3/2009 4:45:36 PM EST

I am going to check my brother in law's skull behind his ear.
He is so liberal, he cant be from this planet.
Link Posted: 11/3/2009 4:46:58 PM EST
There is a ton of "gender" reversal also in this one. It is not paying dogma to the original but I'm digging it.

It was awesome, but a show that portrays universal healthcare as a cover for global domination is a way too accurate depiction of reality to survive.
Link Posted: 11/3/2009 5:09:50 PM EST
Kind of seemed that way to me also.

I watched the '80's marathon and some of the quotes and situations had a creepy parallel to things that are happening today.... it was truly odd, a nuber of times my wife and I just looked at each other like wow>

It seemed pretty fantastic and outlandish in 1983.

What about "sacrifice of ones principles for the good of the collective is a noble cause" and "we don't divide by state or country,we believe in a global governance for the good of the people"...Not too subtle!

I thought there was a Bush dig though with the whole they've been here for years starting pointless wars.

Obama didnt pretend sh*t. He ran as a full blown liberal and America loved it.

Bleh. I missed it on TV so I looked around online and the version up everywhere seems to be an edited version. Unless it really went from the craft floating over NY to the scene in a church talking about wether to trust the visitors...

That was my only real gripe with the show, its lack of subtlety.

ETA, on second thought, that may be a good thing.

I noticed the carrot of "Universal Health Care" that was offered to induce trust and acceptance from the sheeple.

I thought it was very good. It had a BSG feel to it. They definitely made many remarks that mirrored the current administration's political positions. "Hope, change, the greater good, universal healthcare, softball questions by the media, the youth & the masses blindly supporting them. Who is the director?
