Getting back from my deployment in AFG in a little while, and the deployment money is getting me thinking...
I really dont have a handgun other then my M9, which is fun and all..... I guess you can call it my first one, that ill actually own. I was thinking about a Glock 17 or 19 for a 9 mil... Maybe a FN 45 Tac if i was gonna go a .45.... I hate having so many options, and not truly knowing what i want |
| Glock 23 has more knock down not much more kick. At least people who shoot a lot have no problem with the recoil. Our Dept has had very good results with the .40 cal. but if your going to do alot of plinking maybe 9mm would be cheaper for you. I love mine and everyone that has shot it likes it. |

G19 is a good 9mm gun.
If you want a GREAT 9mm gun, the CZ 75 is it. More people on arfcom believe that someone should buy a CZ75 than a G19 SEE POLL HERE |

Try a gunshop with a pistol range. Some shops will rent handguns to prospective buyers so they can get a feel for the different choices available.
Don't listen to the glock-licking fanboys. Glocks are real performers and very reliable, but there are many other great options out there. Everyone has a Goddamn Glock... they are like the minivan of pistols. Besides, some of us don't like to be limited to DAO only. There is nothing wrong with Sigs, other than lower capacity magazines. My Sig has 800-1000 rounds through it without a single failure. I went with an FNP-45 for the 15 rounds of .45, but it is a huge hand cannon. The guys I shoot with are in four camps: one for 1911's, one for glocks, one for XD's, and one for everything else. Just get your mitts on as many different pistols you can and see what feels right. |

The answer is Glock 19/23. Indeed, mine always runs great. Since you have an M9, might I suggest a Ruger Redhawk (or Blackhawk if you will allow)? If you don't like Rugera, a S&W 686 is always nice. Only other thing I can offer up is buy choices 1 and 3. If you don't like one, sell it and buy choice 2.

The answer is always G19.
How did the first post screw it up so badly? The answer is a G19, when you tuck your polo shirt into your khaki pants with your cellphone clipped on your braided belt. For the rest of us with personality, intelligence, and style, the CZ75 among others is chosen instead of the G19. I own both. The difference in quality, pointability, accuracy, dependibility, etc is dominated by CZ. |

All pistols are very capable nowadays... Just go and see which one fits your hand best! Apart from size, the only choice you really need to make is what type of safety you like. Thumb safety, decocker, trigger safety, grip safety, etc. I'm a Glock guy, but this is always my advice. Go to a range with a good rental selection and try them all. |

Skip the Gluck, get a Sig P226 What did the OP ever do to you to wish such misery upon him?
He's already used to an overengineered, pathetically large and heavy and overpriced pistol with a comically heavy trigger press and outdated double/single system. |

BCW, we usually see things the same way. But I have to disagree with you here. Put one of the new 226 in your hand, with the new grip angle, crisper trigger, and unbelievably short reset. It certainly isn't a 1911, but I was surprised how nice it felt, and super fast on target, for me. I'd buy a new 226 over any Glock. |

Big fan of the M11 (aka Sig P228). Think of a more compact and concealable P226 and you have the P228.
The Sig never hic-ups. My Glock G19 has issues every 40 rounds or so and all my other Glocks are about the same. The MYTH of Glock reliability is just that, A MYTH. Add to that the worst trigger devised by man and I can't understand the love of such a shitty gun. |

Depends on what you want. Range toy? Carry gun? Home defense? Competition? All of the above? Then consider features. Do you want a safety? De-cocker? Ambi. controls? DAO, DA/SA, SAO? For HD and a range toy, I love my FNP-45, it is a big damn gun though. But I decided I needed something else for IDPA and carry, so I got an M&P because it's like a Glock, but actually comfortable to shoot. |

I like my CZ-75 compact, but I would say go rent a few and try them out to see what works best for you. Thanks for your service!

I've shot them for sure. I almost bought a West German P228 last year. There's just something about them I don't care for and I can't put my finger on it. The above was just tongue in cheek to rile up the Sig fans. I know they're good guns, just for someone else. |
