Looking at getting some Allen Edmonds dress shoes and was wondering what would be the most versatile style and color such as Black, Oxblood, Walnut or Bourbon

Agreed, Black and a dark Brown/Mahogany will be the most versatile. I'm wearing a pair of dark brown AE's with tan dockers right now. When I get home I'll swap out for a pir of jeans and they'll still look good.

Black. For me, it was specifically the Macneil with the double oak sole and welt. I like the thicker sole but I'm also a EEE width.

Fashion forums (AAAC, etc) will tell you merlot.

You're not going to find one color that does it all. Pony up for 2 and get Park Aves/Fifth Aves in black and Strands in brown calf or bourbon.

Done.

I love the AE Walnut color, but it can be a bit too light.

I have a pair of Strands in Cognac which is a bit darker. You can use Walnut polish on them to get a color halfway between Cognac and Walnut too.

I have black Park Aves and Walnut Strands.

They cover pretty much all of my dress shoe needs.

I have three pair of Allen Edmonds

Strands in walnut

Standmok in tan

Fifth Aves in black
Walnut matches with a surprising amount of clothes from formal to casual. I wear them the most followed by the Strandmoks and I reserve my Fifth Aves for special occasions.

Walnut and black are the best colors in my opinion followed by bourbon and oxblood.
