How many have actually been to a carbine and/or handgun course?
Poll Incoming Military doesnt count. Just interested in Civi ran courses, ie. Pat Rogers, Larry Vickers. |

Military doesnt count. Crap, strike my vote from the record. What course did you go through in the .mil? The only true course that I am aware of that the .mil offers is the SF course, the acronym escapes me. The reason I didnt allow military because I am interested in seeing how many have been to civi courses and becuase what I have seen from the army in CQB training is lacking severly. I would hardly call it a Course. |

Quoted: What if the military sent you to the civilian ones? Or brought in civilian instructors? Did you get anything out of the civilian course or had you seen the same material before? I guess I'm surprised how often people in the military in combat related roles say that they have never seen some of the stuff taught in these kinds of classes before. Fordguy posted about some .mil class he went to that sounded like not everyone in the military gets to go to. It sounded a lot like a civilian carbine course. |

Its becuase the Army fails to train techniques on how to shoot and reload during CQB. The only training I have recieve in CQB has been "ready, ups" from 5m-25m. And a buddy team live fire. Grant it I have only been in for 19mths. So maybe later on... He probably went to the SF course. |

Quoted: I was never in the military but I am surprised that I hear things like that from people in the Army and Marines. Obviously some people are exposed to it, I have seen plenty of military people at Blackwater and not all of them were SEAL types. Quoted: Quoted: What if the military sent you to the civilian ones? I was joking around with one of the instructors about him getting stuck with a bunch of chubby rapidly aging civilians when a bunch of us were there and he looked like he thought about for a minute and said that at least when he told one of us we were doing something wrong we listened and at least tried it his way, he said was surprised since starting there by people in law enforcement and the military who just ignored him when he tried to correct them on simple stuff like reloads or holding over at short range. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=9&f=1&t=228582 |

Quoted: I don't currently shoot 3gun, but that will change next spring. However, I currently shoot plenty of highpower and smallbore matches. There are some good things learned at three gun and practicing for it, somethings you don't learn, like malfunction clearances, and somethings are not good, like running as fast as you can down a hall, into a room, seeing 10 bad guys in the room then standing stock still in a little box and shooting all ten guys with your feet firmly planted in one place. One match I was at one of the Range Officers expressed surprise that the guys I rode down with flipped the safety back on when moving in between shooting. |
