just curious, why doesnt Alan Keyes get any respect. why doesnt he get more of a push in the conservative movement.

why is he un-electable??
i'm not saying he would be a great candidate, but he certainly could match whats on the table currently.

I liked him a lot in the Iowa debate. He was a little over-animated and tended to bob his head back and forth as though he was dodging baseballs or something, but what he said sounded great to me.

Ontheissues says his gun control stance is basically: It doesn't work. Get rid of it.

If you took Alan Keyes, with his intelligence, conservativism, education, and skin color, and gave him Ronald Reagan's communication skills, he'd be a freakin' machine.  Unfortunately, he seems to have an inability to communicate with any degree of passion without sounding like a stark raving nutter.  He seems to get all worked up and he comes across as a bit threatening when he's in that mode.

Alan Keyes is more conservative than GWB, but I did vote straight (R) in the general election.

Keyes is a genius and a great American, and he was always highly regarded by Ronald Reagan when he served in his administration.

Bingo.

His loss to Obama in ILLINOIS (location of Shitcago, remember?) can't be held against him any more than defeat can be held against the last poor soul who challeneged Kennedy in Assechussetts.

His "reparations" plan would have exempted descendants of slaves from federal income taxes, and it was to be part of an experiment to get rid of all federal income taxes. I still disagree with it.

Yeah, really.  Exactly what conclusions are you drawing from his loss to Obama?  Are you saying he shouldn't have lost?  Let's see, carpetbagger from out-of-state, with no organization in Illinois at all, comes in at the eleventh hour as a fill-in candidate after Jack Ryan, the Republican nominee, drops out.  Runs up against the unstoppable tidal wave that was Obama.  So what exactly does your "nuff said" mean?

ETA:  Alan Keyes owns all your page 2.

That's pretty much my take.  He's a smart guy, and very conservative.  But he's also a little wacky.  And wackiness is something most people aren't really looking for in an elected official-they'd prefer corruption and lies.

JC...

i'm from Oklahoma..land of the Sooners..and we arent that impressed. the Republicans had to pay out the ass to get him clean on the books so he could be one of the poster children.

not all is what it seems.

i agree that he is a quirky guy. but i have never been anything but blown away by his writings and his beliefs. they drown out anything by the usual suspects.

i think he would be an excellent VP..to elevate to a Presidental nomination later on.

I heard Alan Keyes speak once.  Brilliant guy, articulate.  However, when he gets started on abortion, he can get passionate to the point of scary.  Abortion is murder, plain and simple.  What do we do with murderers?  We put them in jail or we execute them.  Doctors.  Mothers.  Fathers.  He can make even pro-lifers feel uncomfortable.

"I will do everything in my power to overthrow Roe vs. Wade and get us back where we belong in the acknowledgment of God. But I have made a conscious resolve, in the face of the great opportunity God has given us, starting with the integrity and courage of Roy Moore in Alabama. If we are killing our babies today, it is not just because of our lust, and not just because of our indifference, and our desire to achieve our agendas at every cost and indulge our own satisfaction and give in to our own fears."

I'm not too sure about his stance on rape-a-nations, but when he has filled in for Radio hosts I like, he is always better than the original host. I have seen him in interviews and he is a no-nonsense type guy. His major problem is, HE MAKES TOO MUCH SENSE. For some ridiculous reason, this country has no interest in someone who is smart, straightforward and makes sense.

I've been watching a few debates between Keyes and Obama. First of all, Wow. Keyes is absolutely brilliant. From what I've watched so far, Obama never scored a point on him, and was consistently refuted. Keyes basically made him look like a mental midget. It's such a shame Keyes lost.

Wacky or not, I would vote for him in a second.
