[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Acro P2 early failure (Page 1 of 2)
Posted: 11/23/2023 11:17:34 PM EDT
| Mounted a brand new recently purchased acro p2 on a staccato. In less than 20 rounds, the dot failed. I am assuming the emitter became dislodged as the dot became no longer visible and only a peripheral red glow could be seen with a periodic reflection of the dot off the rear sight. Anyone with a similar experience? |
|
Quoted: P2 is shit, in my experience. I've seen at least half a dozen eat batteries every couple of months and at least two or three with cracked front glass within 100 rounds. Yep. Meanwhile Holosun is putting out closed emitters with practically zero failures and half the price and yet people still sing Aimpoint praise. I don't understand it. The P1 and P2 are both duds. |
|
Failure that early is a manufacturing defect not necessarily a design flaw. Send it back to Aimpoint and see how long the new one/repaired one lasts. RMR and its derivatives are still the kings if pistol dots of your goal is something that'll ride a slide for 10-20k rounds. No I don't want to hear about your chinasun and how "innovative" it is. |
|
My Steiner MPS has been fine. Not a ton of rounds through it yet but no issues except my astigmatism which gets me with any red dot sight. If someone would make a tiny holosight I'd sell some kidneys! Just for the poster above me, my buddy's holosun has actually outlived his RMR and is no on EDC duty. Part of that was the open emitter getting filled with junk and the sight was then useless. |
|
I have a acro p2 on my AR9. Probably less than 500rd though it. No issues but I did notice the battery was dead. But I left it on over a year ago. So. I also have a couple RMR's and my latest one was borked right out of the box. It wouldnt zero. Stuck to the far left. I sent it back and they fixed it. But they arent 100% perfect. I also have a RCR on backorder. I believe closed emitter red dots are the future. Nothing wrong with open emitter ones. I also have a bunch of holosuns. A couple 507k's and a EPS carry. All other variables being equal, If you were in a equipment room choosing a mini red dot for battle, would you choose open or closed? |

Quoted: Blah blah. Find a cell phone actually 100% produced in the USA,...edit....or not China I'll wait. When I can spend more to NOT buy Chinese, I'm fucking doing it. These statements are the biggest cop outs. My iPhone is made in China. As such, I will make no effort to buy non-China when the option exists. |

The Acro is a fine optic. Yours failed. Sometimes rhey do. I’ve got 4. After about 1000 rounds on a Glock one of mine had debris in the optic. I sent it back to aimpoint. I had a brand new one less than 24 hours later (granted I do live less than 20 miles from aimpoint USA). I have a friend who is a firearms instructor at CBP in harpers ferry. They have 10s of thousands of rounds through P2s and RMRs on their test guns to adopt optics. Both are the only optics to pass all their tests. The county adjacent to mine adopted the Acro on G47s (just like CBP will) Send it back. They’ll send you a new one or fix the one you have I’ve also had an ACOG I had to send back I still own and love my TA33 Shit breaks I had to send a G17 back to Smyrna after it broke a frame rail I still carry a Glock 19 every day If you adopt zero tolerance you will literally have no gear because if you look hard enough you will find a reported failure on the internet of literally everything |
|
Out of the 1000 P2 ACROs that I've seen issued, I haven't seen a failure like that. Have seen some electronics failures that were replaced by Aimpoint but not an emitter coming loose. I have over 7500 rounds through my personal Staccato P with P2 without any issues. |

Quoted: Ok so you guys like China. Got it. Nah bro we just aren't hypocrites. The Librem 5 USA is 99.8% made outside of China. The Trijicon is 99.8% made outside of China. Holosun is made 100% in China. iPhone is made 100% in China. Why is it cool for you to buy an iPhone but not cool for me to buy a Holosun? Hypocrite. Plain and simple. Just own it. Either that or show us a screenshot of you buying the Librem 5 USA since there is an option to buy a far less Chinese phone. Your argument is there is no 100% Chinese free phone. Well there is no 100% Chinese free optic since every small die LED is made in China. Every. Single. One. Even Surefire's. Even Trijicon's. So hey again, it's not Chinese free so your argument is not only bullshit, but you're a hypocrite. |

Old school Ultradot . I have one that has been riding a 1911 slide for the better part of 25 years . Granted the loads are soft but there are many of them. |

Quoted: OP My T2 has held up over 5,000 rounds of low-recoil 9mm on my SP5 Quoted: Quoted: You or OP? I haven't fully vetted the Acro P2, but they still make good products. Still have a few T-1s, a T-2, and CompM4 on other guns. OP My T2 has held up over 5,000 rounds of low-recoil 9mm on my SP5 Definitely not a lost a customer thread. I'm sure aimpoint will replace it. I have multiple aimpoints, trijicons, and holosuns. A couple of my aimpoints are over a dozen years old. Just wondering if others with acros have had similar experiences . would be helpful for future dot purchases for pistols, advising friends, etc. |

Yeah wonderful lets pimp the company that has made their money off stolen technology and designs. |

Quoted: Yeah wonderful lets pimp the company that has made their money off stolen technology and designs. How are the stealing designs of they are the only ones innovating? They were the first with a closed emitters pistol optic. Yeah, they keep stealing designs that literally aren't even in market lol |

I only own one but it has no issues with about 100 rounds of 12 gauge though it. Attached File |
| We have about 150 P2s issued out to our agency, and about 30 RMRs from a few years back when we were evaluating whether or not to issue MRDS to our folks. I have sent back 2 P2s for bad LED/no dot. I have sent back 1 RMR for no dot. Over the past 10 years, I've sent back about 4 AimPoint PROs for no dot. I've thrown away dozens of EoTechs over the same time period for no dot/lens issues. We were an early adopter of the Trijicon MRO, and out of 50 units, half (yes HALF) failed before even mounting them to a rifle. They were all returned. Everything fails--no matter what brand. Of course I'm not happy that I had to return two P2s for service, since they were so new, but AimPoint had them fixed and turned around in a matter of days at no charge (as it should be). I am happy with the P2, and we'll continue to buy and issue them. My personal one has probably 10k rounds with a bunch of abuse from run and gun matches, with no issues. |

F that and anyone whom supports it. What design did they steal? Enlighten us, because Trijicon is the most lawsuit happy mfg in the industry and the best they could come up with was button placement. Give me a fucking break. Fake news. If you hate China fine, but your phone is as Chinese as my optic, yet you're cool with it. ![]() My money. I'll spend it how I please. Cool with you or do you also want to be a dictator and tell me what I can and can't do? |

Quoted: Kyocera is Japanese not Chinese Probably still made in china. Asus is Taiwanese. Pretty sure my Asus ROG Phone 6 was made in china. I believe that in 2005 Kyocera outsourced it's manufacturing of cellphones to Flextronics. Flextronics primary works in... China! They had phones built before 2005 in china and have also had models manufactured in Mexico. Yeah, your Japanese phone is likely made in china. At least my Japanese pickup, Nissan, was actually built in Japan. One of the last for the USDM. |

Only Samsungs sold domestically (meaning in SK) are made there. |
