I have a Yamaha Raptor ATV that has been in storage for 2 years. Before I put it into storage it ran great and I ran the gas out of the carbs and added sta-bil to the gas tank.Tried to start it today after charging battery and got nothing, opened the gas cap and there was a thick 1/4 inch white powder residue coating the filler neck and gas cap.The metal part of gas cap where the vent hose goes was rusted to the point of flaking off in layers.WTH is this stuff?I know it was stored a long time but I have never seen such.Building is dry and warm year round where it was stored.Any ideas? Thanks.Oh,gas tank is plastic.

Sounds like corrosion from the ethanol in the gas holding moisture.  If you need a new cap IM me your address, I think I have a spare tank with a cap on it.

This is gonna sound odd but it may have been the Stabil. My buddies dad used stabil in his ATVs and boat fuel when in storage one winter and in the next spring everything either did not run or ran like shit. IIRC he had to remove and clean the carbs on everything to get them running again.

No problem the next year using seafoam, only thing different was no stabil. Can't remember if he was ever able to come up with a definative answer on stabil being the problem but that was the only variable that was different that he could come up with.
