from Neil Boortz Monday, December 20, 2004 ATTACKING CHRISTMAS There is a full-scale attack against all things Christian in this country or anything connected with Christianity, and that includes Christmas. Candy canes, Nativity scenes, Santa Claus, Christmas carols all have huge bulls eyes painted on them. Make no mistake. This is not about separation of church and state. This is not about congress not making a law affecting the establishment of religion or the free exercise thereof. This is not about trying not to offend people. This is about punishment. This is about retribution. This is about the red vs. the blue. This is a war being waged by elite leftists against what they perceive to be the great unwashed, the God-crazed inhabitants of the red states; the people who put George Bush back in office for a second term. Bush-haters are particularly irritated by George Bush's expressions of faith. These people view George Bush as being ignorant; ignorant because he doesn't share their view of the world. Therefore anybody who shares Bush's devout Christian feelings must also be dumb. How could these people not realize that they should be worshiping the state, and not some vague concept of a supreme being? You can almost hear the inner workings of the liberal thought process (if that's what you want to call it). "OK, these ignorant Christians managed to get their zealot elected president, so we'll do what we can to destroy their happiest time of the year." There is one other element at work here. Muslims and political correctness. At a time when Americans, if they have any sense, have to constantly worry about the threat of an attack by Islamic terrorists, apologists and sufferers of Obsessive Compulsive Compassion Syndrome are working hard to make sure that nothing happens in mainstream American society that could ever be considered to be offensive to Muslims. In many cities and school systems around the country Christmas has all but been eradicated in an attempt to cleanse the public scene of anything that might offend a Muslim. Isn't it odd that our country has existed with large Jewish population since day one, and nobody has tried to eradicate Christmas in order to avoid offending Jews? Why do Muslims enjoy this special protection? Pendulums usually swing back. I'm waiting for this one to knock some sense into the ACLU and the anti-Christian left when it does. |
Don't know what you are suggesting, but my Jewish friends tend to celebrate Christmas right along with the rest of us. They just celebrate it as a nice holiday, but don't celebrate it as Jesus' birthday. None of them seem to think it is a big deal. |
3%? You sure? ![]() Even so, there is no denying that the attacks are centered directly upon Christianity. Anyone who says a peep against Hannukah or Kwanzaa are immediately labeled as racists. The labeling is done by those trying to destroy Christmas. Oh, and for the record..... I do NOT believe it is a Jewish conspiracy. Gimme a break! ![]() Having grown up in New York City, Menorahs (sp?), Christmas treees, and Nativity scenes are ALL a perfectly normal part of the holiday season. |
Lighten up Francis... True, there are some athiest zealots that want to remove any religious discourse from the public arena, but you overstate their influence. If you investigated who is doing this, you will find a core group of progressives who view PC as a religion unto itself behind it all. For the record, the Presidents public expression of faith does bother me. I'd like to think that my president is making decisions using his own intellect and advisors insted of giving props to god. I had the opportunity to express my dismay by not voting for him. Guess what, I didn't take the opportunity and gave him my vote. When you see leftists bashing him over this, it's because it's easy. Had I not voted for him myself, it would be quite simple to change his faith from 'something I don't like much' to 'medeval thinking'. Consider most of the attacks on Bush as sour grapes. |
Are you saying that because our President has faith in God he is not making decisions based on intellect? Or, did I miss understand? |

Dear Mr. Boortz: You're reporting this about 50 years too late, if not more. This is nothing new. Yes it's getting worse- but only because it's fashionable for "enlightened" people to rip ALL organized religion, and lump them all together as extremist. The more you think about it the closer the end times seem, eh? |
Okay. so it's a LIBERAL atheist conspiracy. You gotta admit, however, that most atheists vote with the Left.... Also, do you seriously think that George W. Bush actually sits around and says, "We're going to attack Iraq because God says so?" Hogwash! He says, "We're going to attack Iraq because they are a threat to the freedom we all enjoy and which is a gift of God." I believe that is VERY different from what I understand you meant. Neither do I believe that he's basing strategic decisions on what passage of Scripture he read this morning. He takes strength from faith, and he lets the principles of his faith guide him, but I do not believe he turns off his brain and lets the Scriptures do his thinking for him. |

It isn't a Jewish conspiracy. It's an athiest conspiracy. The "enlightened intellectuals" are out to destroy everything that made this nation great, and they're starting from the bottom up. Destroy the roots and the trunk and branches must die too. Reply: Our society is increasingly becoming hyper-sensitive to the point of being ridiculous. There's nothing wrong with Christians celebrating Chistmas and calling their celebration such. As for Channuka, it's a very minor holiday on the Jewish calendar. Most of my co-workers, my parents and sisters celebrate Christmas, and I wish them a Merry Christmas every year. I keep my Channuka observance at home and in my synogogue. 'Just can't figure out why my office needs to hold a "Holiday Party"...they should call it a Christmas party and just enjoy! Shalom y'all Ed |
I wish everyone felt the way that you do. God Bless You! |

Do a Google search on "Christmas Yule History" and see what comes up. Definitely interesting reading... *************************** "Let us begin by clarifying something... Except for the Nativity Scene and Christmas Mass, everything celebrated, practiced, and observed by Christians at the "Yule" season, or so- called "Christmas", was appropriated from Heathen/Pagan sources, i.e. the ancient Northern European religion, in its various forms. This is a fact that any historian, of even mediocre expertise, can discover by a brief study of the past. This knowledge, although quite common amongst scholars, is generally concealed from the Christian populace." **************************** "An enormous number of customs, with either secular, religious, or national aspects, surround Christmas, and vary from country to country. Most of the familiar traditional practices and symbols of Christmas, such as the Christmas tree, the Christmas ham, the Yule Log, holly, mistletoe, the giving of presents, as well as the date of celebration were adapted or appropriated by Christian missionaries from the earlier Asatru pagan midwinter holiday of Yule. This celebration of the Winter solstice was widespread and popular in northern Europe long before the arrival of Christianity. Rather than attempting to suppress such popular pagan feast days, Pope Gregory I allowed Christian missionaries to give them a Christian reinterpretation, while permitting most of the associated customs to continue with little or no modification. The give and take between religious and governmental authorities and celebrators of Christmas continued through the years. Places where conservative Christian theocracies flourished, as in Cromwellian England and in the early New England colonies, were among those where celebrations were suppressed. A few present day Christian churches, notably the Jehovah's Witnesses, some Puritan groups, and some ultra-conservative fundamentalist denominations, still view Christmas as a pagan holiday not sanctioned by the Bible, and do not celebrate it." ************************* Maybe it's not the athiests...maybe it's the pagans taking back "their" holiday? |
