I'd probably say the most usable amounts would be 2-300 rounds of rifle, 50 rounds of shotgun and/or 50 rounds of pistol ammunition would likely be all that is usable (and I assume this to be PER weapon, in storage or whatever).
I'd either be hauling ass (and couldn't carry it all), hiding (and trying NOT to use it/create noise) or dead. Reserves are nice, but to actually use it probably means you're either heavily outnumbered and will be quickly killed, or it's such a drawn-out timeframe that mobility will be more valuable than firepower. Realistically, in a SHTF scenario I think that there will either be SOOO many people in your area that the best bet is to lay low and wait - or you'll be out on your own with nothing to shoot at. I can imagine very few in-betweens in this age of inter-reliance. I also think that weight is the biggest issue - six rifle mags and two pistol mags will slow 95% of the population down to where they wind up shedding it quickly. If you're not moving, then you're hiding - and trying not to draw attention. If you are moving, maybe that rifle attracts too much attention and you have to serve yourself with a concealable pistol and a few mags.... it's all about compromise. But SHTF could also mean "civility" but no means of resupply in the future - then it's whatever you can discretely stash in the basement. :) I have zero experience and there are no zombies where I live. |

For ARFCOM: high utility calibers (30-06, 7.62 and 5.56 NATO), should have minimum, 2K, with 5K considered comfortable (better is at least 1K per usable firearm)––some will substitute 7.62 x39 here, I suggest you should just ADD it in.
Pistol ammo 1K in each caliber . For exotics (like 303, 7.7, 8mm etc), somewhere between 500-750 if you reload. Shotgun, is more a space issue, as much as you have room, with 1K minimum. |
