The owner of a popular Prince George's restaurant that stayed open after a woman died in the bathroom is pleading for forgiveness from the community. The incident happened earlier this month at Jasper's Restaurant in Largo. Jasper's owner Fredric Rosenthal is apologizing to the community. He's sorry the restaurant stayed open for hours after Verna Winn passed away in the women's room. "We were devastated... One of our staff performed CPR until the rescue squad got there," said Rosenthal. Winn, 73, had been having a late lunch with her husband and friends on October 12. She went to the lady's room after they were done and apparently suffered a fatal heart attack. The restaurant kept serving while medics and police arrived, and then kept welcoming customers right through dinner while her body lay in the closed-off bathroom and the family waited for workers from a funeral home to get there. "We blew it," said Rosenthal. "We probably should have closed the bar immediately and given people two options: Finish your dinner, and if you prefer not, we'll pick up the tab for your meal." https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/we-blew-it-owner-admits-to-mistake-after-restaurant-stayed-open-with-woman-s-body-in-restroom/ar-AA13niQC?ocid=winp1taskbar&cvid=7d8435a538c54e46b39eae5ea03a77c7 |

Came here to post this. |

Quoted: The customers had the right to leave if the situation was unsettling to them. The restaurant has the responsibility to serve the customers that choose to stay. This looks like nothing other than a chance for free advertising for the restaurant. Pick up my tab for the meal put it in a "to-go" box and I'm outta here...who knew what the poor woman died of at that time. |

Quoted: I worked one summer at a grocery store in downtown Milwaukee and we had four deaths in the bathroom of shitheads overdosing. I don't think it was any sort of procedure that we had to shut the place down. I lived in Milwaukee for many years. There are no grocery stores left downtown. |

I can't fault the restaurant owner. It's not like they had a plan in place to deal with the event. But in hindsight, all they should do is tell waiting patrons that there been a medical emergency and they won't be seating anymore guests. Then tell the seated patrons the same thing and give them the option of remaining, packing up their meal to-go but either way comping their meal. We were at Disney when a diner had a medical emergency, EMT's hauled them out, a crew came in took the entire table cloth, dishes, food & all put it all in a heavy trash bag & hauled it out. Another crew came behind them and sanitized every square inch of the table & chairs. They sprayed it all down, noted the time on their watches, waited then proceeded to wipe everything down. A supervisor made a visit & 5 minutes later they seated another family. Everyone else in the place went about like it was normal. |

Many moons ago I worked as a corporate restaurant manager. We had a medical event where an older woman was having a heart attack. While assisting the EMTs by dealing with the husband as they were putting her on a gurney a woman at the next table asked me in an annoyed tone what was taking so long for her food. Nobody actually gives a shit about other people in real life. |

I was at a Golds Gym when a 28 year old member died of a heart attack. After the paramedics left with him we continued to work out. If I was a customer of the restaurant, I would be grateful they remained open. I hate going to a restaurant and having to leave without dining. |
