The currency is artificially bloated by the more and more people buy into it. To risky of an investment in my opinion and I am not going to touch it. Also I am not old I am a smart investor and made lots of money doing it by not taking stupid risky chances with my money.

“Robert Metcalfe (the inventor of Ethernet) wrote an article for Infoworld in December 1995 in which he predicted, "I predict the Internet will soon go spectacularly supernova and in 1996 catastrophically collapse."
http://www.businessinsider.com/11-hilariously-wrong-internet-predictions-2013-11 “After two decades online, I'm perplexed. It's not that I haven't had a gas of a good time on the Internet. I've met great people and even caught a hacker or two. But today, I'm uneasy about this most trendy and oversold community. Visionaries see a future of telecommuting workers, interactive libraries and multimedia classrooms. They speak of electronic town meetings and virtual communities. Commerce and business will shift from offices and malls to networks and modems. And the freedom of digital networks will make government more democratic. Baloney. Do our computer pundits lack all common sense? The truth in no online database will replace your daily newspaper, no CD-ROM can take the place of a competent teacher and no computer network will change the way government works.” http://www.newsweek.com/clifford-stoll-why-web-wont-be-nirvana-185306 |

I'm not sure where crypto will end up (no one really is...) but I put some play money in anyway in the event that it does become mainstream and adopted by major corporations.
I've made enough over the past month to pull out my original investment and play with house money. If it comes to a bad ending I'll be disappointed but it won't be life changing. |

Quoted: Why is the USD valuable? Something like that. Nobody has any clue what is going to happen with bitcoin. The price of bitcoin could be $1,000,000 each or 13 cents each this time next year. People get rich off this kind of investing but they also go broke. When the economy imploded in 2010 or so, everyone sold all their stocks at the bottom and bought gold at $1900 an ounce. Because the end times were at hand! They did the opposite of what they were supposed to do. During the dot com bubble, people were buying stocks in companies with no employees and no products or services. Never think that the lemmings are spending their money wisely. They run this way and then that way. |

Cryptocurrency... Yet another topic where the people who know the least about it are the most vocal. "I don't know shit about it but it can't be good..."
I can send a huge amount or a tiny amount of currency nearly instantly to someone in another country without a bank involved on either end and the fee I pay is miniscule compared to a traditional currency transaction. If you can't see the value in that, you need to wake the fuck up. |

Quoted: Bitcoin is backed by trust. Look. Bitcoin is way more complex than I've made jokes about - but what we're talking about is a currency that was almost singlehandedly invented to be useful when it let you buy drugs and child sex slaves and child pornography. It's not the second coming of Jesus. What you should be waiting to buy in are AWSCoins or GoogCoins - because those really complex mathematics equations will actually be mass distributed secure cloud processing - and backed by the assets of a full scale corporation. |

People are buying bitcoin because they're hoping Joe down the street also thinks it's worth something. Bitcoin is supposed to be a currency. If this system was really working as designed people would be trading in usd for bitcoin and leaving it there. But they aren't...the only thing most people are buying with bitcoin is other cryptos which they then in turn try to turn into more usd. I'm happy people are cashing in but I really do believe there will be just as many people who lose big. |

Yup, but it appears we are in the minority around here. Yea, some people made a lot of money off bitcoin, A LOT of money. People see this and gravitate towards it which inflates the bubble even more. Those early people who made a shit ton were also very lucky, it could have also gone the other way. Now no one really knows what will happen with bitcoin. Personally I don't see the point in it. It seems too unstable for an actual currency, seems open to hackers, transactions take a long time, it is trackable, so what is it? The only real value is what a smallish group of people say it is. Sure our currency is also kinda like that but the group is much larger, making it more stable. Right now people are seeing it as an investment because people before them got rich, hence the bubble. I think it will pop when people trying to strike it rich move on to the next latest and greatest. no one knows for sure who invented it. There are some suspicions, but no one knows for sure. That in itself makes it a good investment. Sounds like a great investment ![]() |

Buffet isn't a government official. His job is to make his investors money. He did that better than anyone. He can vote for who he likes. So can you. I've talked to old retired couples that he made wealthy. I respect that. I don't understand his (or anyone's) support for "You didn't build that" Obama. He'll come around to Trump. |

Few random thoughts: For those knocking crypto, do you really think that those of us holding aren't diversified? I have my hands in all sorts of investments, crypto being just one of them. Try to understand the underlying tech behind things like BTC, then judge. I was pretty skeptical at first too. So I researched it, thought about possible use scenarios, then started investing. Think about why certain individuals are knocking it. Are they looking to buy into a dip they helped create, or is their entire business model about to become a dinosaur overnight, hello Jamie Dimon! Guessing that a lot of the haters truly believe this is a flash in the pan, and that a lot wish they got in at ground level. Guys, this is still ground level! |
