Ten years ago, our company policy when landing in Memphis and going to one of the factories in Tupelo, employees have to get in their rental cars and head straight out of Memphis without stopping until crossing the state line. Memphis obviously was a shit hole back then as it is now. |

Memphis obviously was a shit hole back then as it is now. I grew up in a small town about 50 miles from Memphis back in the 60s and 70s. Most folks went to Memphis to shop or go to a real doctor. I can remember when I was a little kid hearing people say "be damn sure you lock your car doors when you are in Memphis, folks up there will snatch you right out of your car". It's always been a rough river town. I drive through there a couple times a year and always make sure I have a couple extra mags. |

It’s still pretty quiet. Surprising considering there was no rioting this weekend when celebrities were here for Lisa Marie’s service Sunday. I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw the photos of the fired cops. It won’t come south into MS even if they start raising hell. They won’t have it here. |

I did grow up near KC though so……I wouldn’t feed Memphis BBQ to my dogs unless I was mad at them. A former coworker told me that to find the best BBQ in Memphis, you had to find a local that knew where the little 'hole in the wall' places are. From his description of the place that he claimed had the best BBQ he had ever eaten, they did zero advertising and it wouldn't seem strange to question whether or not anybody in the city government even knew that a restaurant was being operated at that location (run down building in a bad neighborhood, with no signs and the windows painted over). |
