I would like to agree with you, but that's getting into real money.  On great occasion, ARFCOM will raise real money, but it generally takes a very serious situation to get into 5 digits.  I have no doubt we'd fund a very nice model, but when you start taking actual buildings, I begin to think we're on shaky ground.

I like the transcontinental railroad idea.  It's fresher than the SR-71, which is in effect another spaceship.

Afternoon  test was successful.  Shuttle was turned off at just before 2, and turned on just after 3, with a successful closing at 3:15.

RTC seemed to keep perfect time.  We will probably turn it off again Sunday after graduation and turn it back on next week and see if it picks up where it left off.

Funny part of this is, after all of the coding and hardware issues in this project, TopMen always assumes it's a hardware problem, and I always question the coding.

Today was exactly the same.  He got pissed when I questioned his coding......only to later say it was probably a coding problem.

There's is not a software guy I know that doesn't take exception to someone saying there's a bug in their code.

What's amusing is we all had to think about that for a bit before making a determination on it...

Well, I turned off the shuttle doors today, leaving them in the open position.   I'll turn it back on later in the week and see if the clock kept time properly.   If not, TopMen will be here putting more hours into figuring out the "hardware problem."

If your district would allow ARFCOM as a corporate entity to brand your shirts, hory shit, the money you would raise...

So, test results....

The Real Time Clock somehow did not keep the correct time after we shut off the power.  TopMen was not amused by this, and not happy about spending more hours trying to trouble shoot it.

We are going to test it again this afternoon by shutting it down, then powering it back up at 3:15.     We think maybe the battery to the RTC may be bad, but it worked correctly for the short term shutdowns earlier this afternoon.   In other words.  We have no idea why the time was off.

You shouldn't just yank the power from the board to stop it.

Switch should go through resistors to pull an input high or low.   Then in code, it can be decided to ignore timing signals and keep doors open (Switch Off, On, Off)  Or doors closed (Switch On for 4 seconds, switch off for 4 seconds, switch back on for 4 seconds)    Switch going from off to ON tells program to resume the timing, but actually use the actuators.   Switch in "Off" mode deactivates the actuators.   The Switch codes above were just made up to give an example on how to give "input" with only 1 I/O.

Yanking the power at an indeterminate point will have it return to a state where bits are dirty, and/or assumptions made in the code are wrong.     The amount of power drawn is miniscule.  Essentially non compared to what the door motors need.

Guns, have a great summer 'off.' I'm in for a glue stick next year, whatever you decide to build.

Thank you, I will.

I rewarded myself yesterday just a bit.   I bought myself a 2017 Tundra Crew Max TRD.

Update on the shuttle!   Turned it on again today, and it closed the doors right on schedule at 9:27, picking up the schedule perfectly.

Quick tour of our permanent displays throughout our school.

I think we can officially call the shuttle project done and complete.
