Attached File Been jonesing for a dog lately, wife unit presented clear, considered and correct arguments as to why we can't have a dog right now. Then, a buddy brought this by the office, 5 weeks old, and was near death. Runt of the litter, mom had rejected her, his other dogs were grabbing her by the neck and literally burying her in the back yard. Wife picked her up, and it was love at first sight- spent 3 days and nights bottle feeding the little thing unpasteurized goat's milk. She couldn't stand, and I thought for sure several times we were going to lose her, but the little spit made it. Not the dog I wanted, But just the dog I need. But what is it?
Wife used to tell her friends I had a purse dog. 7lb. Rat Terrier. I picked her for the attitude, not the size. She didn't care she was tiny. She was fearless when it came to animals on her property. The new one is 20lbs. I think that's the best size. Small enough to handle, but big enough that I don't have to worry about breaking her when we play. |

At the time he brought Tia in, he had 13 dogs total- he really is a good person- it just all got away from him. He was terrified this little one was going to die (nearly did), and he just couldn't do anything about it at that point (has to work). One Craigslist ad, and he's down to six, and has appointments to stop the "wonder and carnage". Please don't pick him apart guys, some people learn the hard way. And we got the benefit. |

Got our black lab at 6 weeks, he's now 9 years old and still freaks out when left alone. She was touch and go too, but my God, at that kind of age, the imprinting makes for the best companion animals. You are EVERYTHING to them. All their lives.

UPDATE:
7 weeks this past Wednesday- Doing MUCH better. Still wobbly on legs that are getting very long- has a hilarious hop, paddle wobble gait, but is getting better with a lot of exercise. Training her to use a pad to pee and poop, and she tries like heck to get to it now, and is successful mostly- if she does forget, she gets the big "No", and makes a bee-line for the safety of her bed, where she whines as if to say "I'm sorry". Smart for so young. Cats are getting used to it, and Tia just loves Lucky, our 18yr old- He tolerates her antics up to a point but gently lets her know when he's had enough. She slept all the way through until I got up at 5:30 this am- Haven't slept like that for 2 weeks-
Dang little thing is stealing my heart- and what a "Chick magnet" she is!

I was a lifelong big dog person. GSDs are the best dog ever. Never liked most little dogs, nervous, nippy, yappy little shits. Girlfriend and I were asked by her ailing grandfather to take care of his dog before he passed, shortly thereafter her brother asked us to "watch" his dog because he had to move and the new place wouldn't let him have a dog. Dog never left. So now I have two minidogs. And they are awesome. And yes, they are chick magnets. Attached File Attached File |

Op, VERY IMPORTANT. my best friend, like my brother, had 2 chiuaua's. The vet told my friend and his family that at that age, the little pups blood sugar can drop dramatically. You MUST go buy some fruit loops, and give her a small hand full three times a day to keep her sugar up. After a few months, she will be ok. DO NOT let her blood sugar drop. She can die. She will become drowsy, go to sleep and not wake up.
PLEASE keep her sugar up. And god bless for saving one of gods creatures. |

8 Weeks this past Thursday.
Sleeping thru the night. Makes every effort to find a pad (down to 2) to do her duty- couldn't really get mad this week when she found a pad, did a perfect center dump, then used white carpet to wipe her ass. 5 Times....
Still taking her into the office every day- And what a hit she is1 You haven't lived until you've seen a 70yr old Combat Marine get on his knees and make baby sounds to a puppy. Thought I might have to fight the guy to get her back-
These are kind of the family pics and vids nobody cares about except family, but I did promise to update. Wife's friend sent a doggie t-shirt. Looks like she's doing much better. At a few points along the way, I thought what if the rejection by mom, and the attacks by the other dogs were because something really was wrong? Nothing wrong with her at all. Except maybe those ears. We keep her in when the wind is blowing.
