| Im new to 3 gun.and I have alot of questions but i have answered alot threw this forum already. One ? is i have a vortex strikefire red dot on the ar i used and i have been considering getting a 1-4x scope instead? I have only shot 1 comp and everything that day was close so the dot was good but the people that shoot them every month says the distances vary and sometimes they will set clay pilgeons up past 100 to shoot and other matches in my driving distance shoota longer as well. I dont think the 4 moa is ideal for clays past 100 yards. I dont have experience with the 1-4x but it doesnt look like i could use iron sights with it for the closer stuff? Any input |

I use an EoTech and successfully engage targets out to 400+ yards. A 4 MoA dot covers up 4 inches of target at 100 yards, that's the size of a clay bird. Put your dot on the bird, control your breathing trigger squeeze straight to the rear, and kiss the bird good bye. If you have a 50 yard zero your rounds should be 1 inch or so high at 100 so you might need to aim a little low at 100.
The hardest thing to control is ourselves after that damn buzzer goes off. I started 3 gun matches just under a year ago, keep using what you have and practice. Always remember you drive the guns. Side note though, I have young eyes and can see that far, older gentlemen do find that magnified optics help them greatly. But you still need to know your zero, your ammo and your hold overs to successfully engage anything. |
| I am 23 so i can see pretty good too i like the dot because its fast but didnt know about distance shooting the 4 moa just seemed to big when shooting out there as opposed to 1 moa but i haven't practiced that with it so I'll give it a try i just see alot of people using1-4 with offset iron sights and didnt know if that was a better way to go |
