Not sure where to put this...

Is there such a thing as a tracking device that a person could put in his firearm so that if it was stolen it could be located?  Maybe I'm just dreaming, but it would be an extra piece of safety.

you could bring it in to a veterinarian and tell them it is your pet and want to have a tracking chip inserted

They are not for tracking, they are for identification.

I think these have an independent battery source and one could probably be located in a stock cavity.

Haha!!  THEY are already secretly putting these in all new firearms.  I heard so at the gun show.

This is all secret sqkwirrel stuff so I probably shouldn't even be telling you....but if you want to do this on the cheap, just stuff a few twenty dollar bills in the stock cavity.

The polymer strip is embedded with identification info which the government tracks by scanning the entire continent with low-earth orbit NSA satellites.

The only drawback is that if your rifle is stolen you'll need to file a freedom of information act request to have the tracking data pulled. So definitely keep track of the serial numbers on the twenty's that you put in there.

Good luck citizen!
