I know this has been talked about before but new things come out all the time.
Right now I have a millet long range scope with a 35mm tube with 6 to 25x. This is a big and heavy scope. I have used it for about 200 rounds now with no real issues that I know of. The biggest thing I don't like is that at long ranges (800 yards ) it is blurry

What are you using and its pro and cons

The Bushnell Elite Tactical 3.5 x 21 - 50mm. Over 200 rds so far and is holding up fine. I like the higher power it affords, nice bright optics and a good choice of reticles. Lots of features and lifetime warranty. The street price isn't bad considering everything this scope offers. It is made in Japan by the same company that makes many higher end scopes like Super Sniper. Only thing I wish it had was an illuminated reticle.

Great article comparing mid-highend tactical scopes.

Hignend scope shootout

Money was no object I would get me a Leupold Mark 6 3 x 18 - 44, illuminated.

Going to a bigger tube than 30mm is the best route, IMHO.

Nightforce NXS 8-32X56 that I purchased in 2010 and sent back to have zero stop installed after spending some time with a few long range shooter that really gave me an education.  After that I had to have it for my gun.  I've also got Nightforce rings and their is nothing I don't like about it.  Now they come with the zero stop installed I believe.  I don't think you can go wrong with Nightforce but I've also heard great things about Vortex.  I'm a firm believer in going ahead and spending money once. Friends don't let friends go cheap.  You will regret it in my opinion.

The user manual states that this scope has two manual focus adjustments. If you've fully explored the range of focus adjustment, there must be something wrong with the scope. I'd contact the manufacture. There is no reason a quality long range scope should be blurry at 800 yards and not properly focus.

Edit I see now that it's a cheaper scope, and may be issue with the quality of the scope based on some of the reviews. I'd still try to get a replacement, or get some money back. Personally, I'm happy with my Leupold Mark IV 4-14X with 30mm tube. Probably not enough magnification for precision at 800+ yards. Good enough to hit 18" steel some of the time.

A lot of my shooting is close range. With the millet scope I found it blurry at 800 yards when I was trying to sight in and using a printed "zombie" target. I could not make out the printed people on the target. I could see the stand well enough.

Why would you use a 6-25X scope on a rifle mostly used at close range?

[#7]
Because not all of the shooting is at close range.

I can use the lower power settings at closer ranges and when I need longer ranges I turn it up higher.

What kind of rifle? And what kind of accuracy do you want to get at 800+ yards?

I have a Leupold on my M107, just because I had it laying around from a trade, I rarely ever use the 50, and even when I do it's not for 'serious' work. However it never ceases to amaze me the garbage that people put on their 50s! Of all the rifles, this is the caliber to not cheap out on, especiailly if you actually use the rifle.

If you want to cheap out, get either a vortex (viper series at the least) or SS (super sniper). Atleast they have a no hassle lifetime warranty where they will replace it quickly and for free. Otherwise, get a s&b, NF or Vortex razor. You can also get one of the more expensive Leupolds that are meant for 50cal (like m5), but in general they are overpriced and behind in the times feature wise (but atleast they will withstand the recoil). If your rifle is just for play and short range, get a GOOD brand but just a fixed scope. You will save a ton of money, but have a solid scope.

Bluryness isn't even the big deal. You can still shoot accurately through a blurry picture. I do it every summer at 2k yards in our 115 degree weather. The nicer scopes have REPEATABLE turrets, more forgiving parallax, good eyebox, hold zero and more. You might think your cheap scope is holding zero against recoil, but what you don't realize is that every time you crank the turrets up , it could be moving the zero a little. Or the clicks at the beginning of your elevation range are different than the upper range.

But aside from all this, crisp image does make the shooting experience much more enjoyable. Unless there is some serious mirage, we can usually see our hits on steel at 2k yards with our S&B and Vortex Razor.

I'm all for saving money, but unless your rifle is just a hillbilly boomstick to shoot blindly at dirt, get a nice scope and thank me later. Buy used. I do this with all my expensive scopes. All my scopes are nice ones but "value depreciation' wise I'm saving money compared to buying garbage thats impossible to resell later.

I bought a SS 20X last year. Has over 100 rounds through it with zero problems so far.

I replaced a SS fixed 10x with a VIPER PST 6-24X50 FFP RIFLESCOPE, around $900.

Shot about 70 rounds yesterday and found my side adjustment doesn't click anymore. Dam, jinxed myself. Still a little stiff so doesn't move when firing. Still a fine scope for the money.

I remember reading some sage advice about scopes and 50 BMG rifles. He said that all scopes will fail with time on a big rifle like the 50 BMG. Just some fail faster than others. So, get a quality scope made by someone that has a NO questions asked warranty for life. And then when the scope does fail, just send it in and let them take care of it. I have a Night Force and it has that kind of warranty. Now I had it before the 50 so it aint a fancy NXS. But my BR 8X 32 X 56 (?) does fine for me. Just looked it up the other days and I see that they are going for about 1200 bucks, whereas the NXS units go for nothing less than 1700 and more. And those Leos are dang good scopes too. But again they also have a hefty price tag. Yes quality does cost more.

I have a non-illuminated SWFA 5-20. Good scope.  Holds its own against scopes in its price range, much better glass than cheaper scopes, and not as good as more expensive scopes. Great reticle, and matching turrets that track true.  It's a bit on the heavy side though.

Got lucky, just the hex screw came loose. Got around today inspecting my rifle and scope. Hate having to remove a scope for repairs, then have to rezero. Usually just a minor adjustment but still sucks.

I disagree, not all will fail. Only 'cheap' ones orthe occasional defect from the factory of a quality scope. I mean if we are talking about a 'theoretical max' like possibly thousands of years or millions of rounds, then sure I'll agree, but not for realistic amounts.

Plus, a rifle like the M82/M107 has less of a recoil impulse than my 338lm suppressed. Many bad things can be said of the Barrett, but actual recoil is not one of them. Both my friend and I have an s&b on our 338's and they work just as well as the first day we got em. I've got hundreds of rounds through mine and he has thousands upon thousands (he has been through many barrels on it).
