The slide nut for forend nut is not grooved like moss, rem and win pumps.  It appears to be threaded but I am not sure about the technique to keep from destroying the wood. It doen't help that the nut is rounded and smooth.  Normally I would ask Zeke on the Numrich forum but they're forum is down

Anyone done this?

Seems like the ithaca 37 is the same iirc. They are kinda a pita to unscrew.

They do unscrew normally, but heaven help me I can’t recall if there is anything odd about the process.

I did refinish a set on a 77 I sold years ago, I definitely had the wood completely off the gun.
