In a post 64 30-30 the gun sends the bullet nose above the chamber.  Can't figure out what's making it go up so far.  Doesn't matter how fast or slow you operate the lever.  Does this with several kinds of round nose factory ammo.  Cleaned everything and made sure all the screws were snug.    The lifter doesn't seem bent or broken.  Thinking it's a cartridge guide problem, but there no real adjustment there, is there?  Any sugguestions would be appreciated.

Pull the carrier lift, and look for wear.

Also, make sure that the carrier spring is in place, and has not snapped.

Definitely sounds like the cartridge lifter isn't getting the round pointed up the chute.
