I have a Westernfield marked 04M-491A which is the same basically as the Mossberg 46B that's missing the front sight. There is a SINGLE HOLE for a sight screw, my barrel DOES NOT have the dovetail for the insert style front sight. Anyone know that screw size and/or a generic/universal front sight that will fit? Anyone know what other models/makes used the same sight I can cross reference? Thanks. |

A simple method to sort out the screw size and thread pitch is to head over to an Ace or similar hardware store, they usually have two boxes with gun screws. Buy four screws, two #6's in each pitch and two #8's in each pitch to try in your barrel. You can improve that by comparing a #6 and a #8 screw you have on hand to the hole to buy the right diameter. Don't turn in the try screws, the threads will get screwed up. There's a trick to measure the hole and thread pitch. Carve a tiny stick, carefully thread it into the hole, then measure the diameter and thread pitch. Check Numrich and Jack First for a factory sight. A sight can be fabricated. |

Numrich was my first try. Using some type of universal sight is in fact Plan B. I was looking for something original to the rifle and I believe I found it... but damn... it's like $80 just for the front sight. Think I'll pass on an original and just acquire some type of substitute. |

I got a 46b scope mount from them a few years ago. @avips I already ordered one of their mounts, should be here middle of next week. They have the rear sight but seeing as I'm going to scope the rifle I've decided to pass on putting irons on the rifle. |
