I've been trying to find a place to buy a USGI extractor from.  I checked Orion 7 and Fulton Armory, and Smith Enterprises, but they say they are out indefinately.

Any other places?

From the future Second Edition of M14 Rifle History and Development:

"There were two versions of the M14 extractor.  The early version was identical to the M1 Garand rifle extractor and had a sharp point on the lower front right-hand corner which could snag the cartridge.  This caused the extractor to leave the bolt when firing M82 blank cartridges.  This problem was corrected with the late version (January, 1965 and onward) extractor which was milled with a beveled lower front corner which allowed the M82 cartridge to clear the extractor."

Moral of the story, if you install a Garand extractor in your M14 type rifle, don't shoot USGI blank cartridges.

You might also check Amherst Depot and Placer C.B.S., both Shotgun News advertisers of USGI rifle parts.  This in case Bill Ricca is out, try him first.

I just recently bought everything I needed to "dress" a stripped TRW bolt from Numrich Gun Parts.  All the bits and pieces were in stock and shipped immediately.

IIRC, there is a simple modification that can be done to the M1 extractor to correct this "problem".

Also, for parts check www.usarmory.com
