Anyone had any experience with the company and this particular upper? I'm not looking to buy it soon. But if someone's got a good deal on one LMK please. Thanks for any info.

I've had mine about four years. No problems to speak of except..

Make sure you have a GI (read- strong) hammer spring. I loaned it to a friend once who had a JP speed hammer and associated parts in a NM lower, and several FTF's occured. Only a light strike mark on the primer, no bang. Evidently it takes a good bit more energy to initiate a large pistol primer than a commercial .223.

And the fact no one makes cheap FMJ to practice with. $1 per round for Speer or IMI sucks. I hate to waste a perfectly good Gold Dot for plinking.

Just wondering. How many rounds for 50AE fit in 30rd mags?

Yes, it is. I have a Tromix 440 Corbon upper (440 is a necked down 50 AE to .429")......

I'm a looser though... haven't even shot the thing..... and I've had it for at least 2 years.....

Geez... that's gotta be some sorta sin in the gun world holy bible. I think you need to visit a range this weekend.

Ever look into reloading? I haven't worked out all the costs yet for 50AE. But if you don't value your time (like me) It's usually cheaper in the long run for accurate or special (tracers,AP, API, Etc) ammo.

Sparsk, how about the .50 Beowulf? I think maybe someday I'll get a 16" upper and use it for hog hunting. Should be plenty whoop-ass for it, methinks.

I think a .500 S&W upper would be pretty damn nice, too....

A 30 round mag will hold nine rounds of AE.

And yes, it makes an excellent hog gun.

Um....

What is the case diameter on the 50AE?

The 458 SOCOM's parent case is an uncut 50AE "long"....with a rebated rim....a USGI 30 will hold 10rds....

I'm pretty sure at most, the .50 AE is a straight walled case... probably .510 diameter. I have an empty at home I could mic... if I can find it...

Yea Mat I looking into other calibers like the .458 socom and such. But I notice with most of those calibers it's almost twice the price of 50AE. Plus, I already bought some realoding dies in EE for 20 shipped. So I know I already saved probably 15 bucks in the dies. I sold my 357 DE recently, and plan on getting a 50AE DE if everything goes well.

Edited to Add: In my loadin manual, says 50AE is .5290" at the neck, .5434" at the base, and .5150" at the rim. Max Case length is 1.2850", Max OAL 1.595"

So how many can I fit in a Beta Mag?
Link Posted: 9/8/2004 2:04:32 PM EST
The 'feet' on the follower on my mags are fairly long. After loading the ninth round, it is approx. .050" too shallow to take another one.

But after a few seconds on the grinder it will now accecpt ten.

I do not mind reloading, but still hate to waste a good hollow point for casual shooting. Does anyone make a jacketed ball bullet ? Solid lead and gas ports do not mix in my world.

Nice dude. I pulled up at a pistol lane at an indoor range and the guy next to me busted out his .50AE DE and blasted a couple mags. I had to step back because the blast echoed so much in there. I asked him if it was .44 Mag or .50AE... sho nuff, .50!

I'd love to check out your setup if you get this workin. I saw an AR15 in .50AE in a magazine years ago.

My upcoming project is going to be my 'tactical levergun'.... 16" lever action carbine in .357... supressed...

Oh I forgot to ask. What kinda modifications need to be done to the mag? Is it something were you can never shoot .223 out of it again?

Also, can you shoot .223 out of a converted mag? (While the conversion is still in?)

A spacer is put inside the magazine and the follower is replaced. Shooting 223 is not possible in a converted mag. If you remove the spacer & put the original follower back in it should work w/ 223 once again.
