I have an opportunity to trade a nice AK47 with bunch of mags for my Marlin (JM) 1894C .357 Mag levergun. I know all will say have both, but hobby needs to be self funding as a family rule!
AK is very lightly used - Marlin has 2000+ rds thru it but in excellent shape. Would you make the trade? Thanks |

My last JM 357 marlin i was given $700 from a LGS. AK's are running $499. IMO AK's are a dime a dozen (figuratively) Your 357 saddle ring carbine not at all. That totally depends on the AK. OP, what brand of AK are talking here? Certain models as well could be worth quite a bit, and many people looking to trade don't know what they have many times. Hell, I traded a bone stock Remington 700 for a Polytech double folder years ago. |
| Probably. As fun as those marlins are to shoot, 357 ammo is expensive as hell. They're ok hog guns, but not so much for deer IMO. AK's aren't my favorite gun, but ammo is relatively cheap, and its a good gun to put away for a rainy day. If it was me, I'd do the trade and try to locate a marlin in 30-30 second hand at a later time. |

It's a bad trade. I have a Marlin like your's and they've risen in value dramatically over the last few years. I was shocked when I started looking around at prices on them lately. $700 would be a good price on one around here. I'd buy depending on condition, Scored a real unobtainium 357 some time back. The Browning - 92 in .357 83 date of mfg. The thing still has the factory lube on it. |

357 ammo is in good supply online http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/index.php/cName/357-magnum-all-357-magnum and the round is becoming popular as a "one round" solution for its performance
and the resurgence of the popularity of the 357 revolver. This is why the lever action 357 is increasing in value. The Ruger® 77/357 was introduced to compliment their good value 357 wheel guns. There are at least two types of AKs, lower and upper tier. The difference is quality of manufacture and price, $500 vs $1500 and up. WASRs are nice AKs but they are definitely lower tier, value is probably no more than $450-475 and the Marlin is easily $700. If you like to tinker lower tier AK47s are great and a hell of a lot of fun to shoot and ammo is cheap. The recent ban on Russian AKs sparked panic buying which has inflated the price of AKs but they are leveling out to pre-ban values… A good trade for both of you would be +$200 or ammo at .30 a round + cash or 650 for $200. Spare parts have little value in trade, he would be better off selling them by themselves. |

AK is a WASR 2014 date - no sight cant with 2 extra stocks. I did not realize the Marlin might be worth ~$700... Jeff I paid a little more than that for the same model Marlin from a pawn shop a few months ago, and that is about the going price for older ones. They are easily worth more than a WASR. |
