I have a SS 10X and was woundering would it be to much for my FAl.  I have a 21in G1 barrel, I am getting 2-3MOA.

There is no right or wrong answer here only an opinion. And to me it is too much. But if you like it that's all that matters.

I was thinking about selling the SS 10, it's new in the box.  I sold my bolt-action before mounting the SS10. I may put an EOtech or Aimpoint on my FAL.

I have an ACOG on mine and love it.
by far my favorite shooter now.
then again i prefer magnification, once i get a 3X eotech magnifier i will have the best of both worlds with the holo sights.

I have a hard time getting a decent cheek weld with any optic on my FAL.

But I wouldn't think a 10x SS would be overkill for  308 rifle. But you obviously can't turn your FAL into a sub MOA rifle by adding one.

I use a 4-16X scope on my FAL as well as my AR for long distance shooting. I'm 43 and my eyes are not what they were 5 years ago. I don't need glasses other than reading glasses, but I feel that 5 years ago I could probably get by with a 10x or less. I am going to attempt shooting 1k yd targets and 16x would be the minimum required power for me. Everyone is different. Here is a picture of my FAL Paratrooper with my AR Colt scope mount and 4-16x. I like the fact that it is the same height on my FAL as it is on my AR 15 with the handle scope rail, which is 3.5 inches from center of glass to top of stock. Too high for some folks but I have been using it for so long it's natural. It also lets me see the iron sights at the same time too which is good.http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d37/jperickson2001/P3180009.jpg

IMHO a fixed 10X scope would be less than optimal for your everyday FAL.

I could see a case made for a 3-9X or maybe a 4-12X, but a red dot, ACOG, or something in the 1-4X or 2-7X range would probably be a better fit for the FAL.

Just my opinion ymmv.

Thanks for the information guys.  I wouldn't try to trun my FAL into a 1 MOA rifle.  It's a battle rifle, I get 2, 2.5 MOA on a rest and 3MOA free hand with open sights.  I would like to put a 1-4 or 2-7 power or a EOtech w/3X.  Just to help with low light shooting.

I just got a Millet DMS 1x4 for my FAL.  seems to be about right for the accuracy potential of the rifle.  and at the right price point for me

Dose the Millet DMS wash out in bright sunlight?

yes, but the circle turns to black and stays visible

No worries.

I was thinking about getting one for my M1A, but ended up with a 10X SS...

10X SS is a great scope for the money.  SWFA has the Millet DMS for $200.

I'd want lower magnification were it me.  The FAL is not for shooting fly wings and a fixed 10x is going to really limit your field of view in the scope.  My 1.75-6X was perfect but I gave up on scopes with FALs.  A nice Aimpoint or EOTech is fantastic for me.  If all you ever see doing is settling in behind a bench with it then go for it.  If you plan to do anything more dynamic then it will probably not work so well.  If you plan to try and shoot tiny groups at 300yds then you likely will find it frustrating.

In my opinion and experience, the FAL is for man sized targets out to 300 meters. I use my FAL open sights. I tried a scope on a earlier one I had and it is just not a highly accurate, nor was it ever designed to be.

For longer ranges, or more accurate work, I purchased a Savage 11 in 308 and mounted a 6X18 50mm illuminated range finding reticule scope. The Savage is often over looked, but is one of the most accurate out of the box rifle I have ever owned.

Thanks for the information.  I am saving up for a Eotech now.
