I'm looking for a little input before I make my next rifle purchase. Basically after building a couple ARs in 5.56, I want to buy/build something in a larger caliber. I was originally going to buy a bolt action .308 and add a few upgrades. But I'm starting to realize that with all the upgrades I want, even the cheapest bolt action would end up costing almost as much as building an LR308. So in the end, the only benefit would be the weight savings (around 3 lbs on average from what I've seen). So my question is this: Would the reduced weight be worth (a) not using a platform I'm already familiar with, (b) not having semi-auto, and (c) not being able to use an 80% lower to keep it off the books?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'd go with with a bolt gun in .308 for precision shooting.

I find myself shooting slower and more accuately with them over my semi-autos.

Of course both is the correct answer but start with the bolt.

I like the way you think. There's no such thing as too many guns!
