The original 10/22 rear sights are on the barrel.
So you don't know if the barrel is really clamped down straight/even on the receiver. One thing you could try is to remove the barreled action from the stock, loosen the screw on the left side a half turn and tighten up the right screw (if it will). Then check the left screw again to make sure its tight. That may pull your barrel slightly to the right allowing you to center the rear sight better. Mine was so far off when I put my Tech Sights on a few years ago that I cut a small sliver of a shim from a pepsi can and placed it under the left side of the barrel. It worked great. Allowed me to move the rear aperature towards the middle of the windage adjustment screw and never caused any functioning issues. Seems like a sliver of an aluminum diet pepsi can was 0.007" thick, but that's been a few years ago. |

I'd check as mentioned above to make sure barrel straight etc.
Also agree that it would be within "normal" or acceptable. BUT, can't you drift the front? I would center the rear and then drift the front in the dovetail to get centered, then it will always be easy for you to get it back to "zero" without having to remember houw many clicks off you are. I'm still getting parts in to build my first 10/22, so don't yell at me if the front can't move in the dovetail |
