I originally thunk up the idea of making a retrofit kit so Tec-9 owners can actually make them a usable weapon. I haven't figured out how to do the barrel yet. If you look close at just above the front take down pin, there are 2 indents in the receiver. These hold the barrel on and I haven't figured out how to get the existing barrel off yet without destroying the upper receiver. I think if I machine a round spacer that fits the inside diameter of the upper tube with a threaded hole for an AR15 9MM barrel, it should work. Then it should be just a matter of getting the right depth for the barrel so it is in the same position as the original. The weld the spacer to the upper tube. The buttstock is already figured out. The rear cap on the upper tube has a small nipple in the middle that is used to center the upper in the corresponding indent in the back of the lower. Drill a hole in the back of the lower out to 1 1/8". Take a short piece of tubing with an inside diameter of 1 1/8" and weld it to the back of the rear cap. Thread it for a buffer tube and you can put on any AR15 buttstock. I think I can also use 2 or 3 CAR buttstock lock rings welded together. They are already threaded, just need to line up the threads before welding. It will take me awhile to finish this project for as we soldiers have until 1 December 03 to get a German firearms possession card or get our guns out of Germany. The card requires 3 months of classes or be a member of a shooting team for 6 months. The nearsest place to take the classes is about a 1 1/2 hour drive from where I am stationed. That's the plan anyway. |

Actually, I've thought of something like this also. But it would be turning the pistol into a carbine. Would need a custom made tube and an adapter to fit like a 9mm AR barrel. Thought about re-barreling, but if you look, the raw stock needed to turn the barrel would be huge. It's at least 2" in dia and most of it will be milled off. (AB-10) Any how, my AB has as those indents on the top side, 4 of them. But if you look, the lug that the pin goes through, there is a roll pin in there. I've thought about drilling the roll pin just to see if I can twist the barrel out. Maybe it's some kind of locking lugs. If not, I'd make a carbine upper using a free float tube for an AR. If I wanted a pistol rebarrel, I'd just make a new tube..maybe. Hard saying. A waist of time....possibly. But I love to experiment.... |

I'm going to order a extra barrel, upper receiver and rear cap from Gun Parts Corporation and see what will work. If I make an adapter that screws to the inside of the upper tube and is threaded in the middle to accept a 9mm barrel, it should work. I have to work out the proper depth so it will feed and chamber properly. With a threaded insert, just about any barrel with threads on the chamber end should work. As this is blowback operated, I don't have to worry about indexing the barrel for a gas tube AKA AR15. I'm more interested in identifying the issues and finding a work around than if the project is worth the time. I like the challenge. If it works and is reproduceable, others can improve their TEC-9 and have something cool. I thought about making an insert for the tube that would allow the use of an AR15 bolt and carrier (would only work if using an AR15 buffer tube mod I mentioned earlier). Change the upper tube to aluminum and drop some weight on the whole thing. |

Why go through all that trouble when you can just get a Feather Industries AT-9 Carbine? www.featherusa.com WAS |
hehehe...I never said they were cheap! WAS |
