Ok HK Guru's

I picked up my first HK style rifle, the PTR91 KFM4

I couldnt argue with the price even though it came with a hideious M4 stock that is some oddball size, - I mean come on! you cant even put a magpul CTR or anything else on the off spec tube!

anyway...I want to put a new stock on it, but am curious as to what buffers fit what. I want to upgrade the buffer too, but dont know what fits the different style of stocks. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Breaking it down into the different types of stocks what I've read and what I've experienced first hand.

1: The telescoping ones have a built in one Bill Springfield can put one of his improved ones in those. Some refer to them as meat grinders. Never used one personally.

2: The plastic surplus ones can fit most of the different sized buffers with minimum modification since they are mostly hollow they have a plastic piece that would wedge into place in the wrist of the stock when tightened on a stadard buffer that is kind of a pain though as the heavier buffers are longer so they change where it sits and do not let it wedge in its intended place to keep it from rattling (I put a msg90 buffer in one didn't need any modification though just cranked down on the plastic piece inside with some washers with teeth on em so it wedged against the side of the stock so it didn't rattle.  To be honest I think it was a waste of money since I don't notice the difference in recoil).

3: The magpul one needs to be modified to fit anything other than a standard buffer (or maybe one of Bill Springfield's buffers) and you need to be careful if you bore it out since it is somewhat thin plastic in that area (on mine I just threw a standard buffer in it and its comfy since it has a nice butt pad on it and I didn't want to weaken its integrity, eventually I want to try a Bill Springfield buffer in it. This is the stock I use most often).

4: The wood ones you need to bore out as well to fit anything other than a standard buffer as they are solid wood with just enough bored out for a standard buffer from the pics I have seen, and what I have read. I do not own one so I can't say 100%.

5: I think the clubfoot stocks don't need much modification since they were designed for the belt fed version with a very heavy buffer but since I'm not too familiar with them I can't really say.
