Attached File I did a search about Vltor Aug receivers. Whether it’s true or not read that not all Vltor receivers were marked. Fell into the early ones. So it said. Wish I knew what year I got it. But I’m fairly confident it was 2013-2014. I have pictures of it in a neutered state that is list 2014. Attached File |

From what I can tell my barrel is a CHF chrome line barrel. It has 1301 made in the USA 556/223 REM stamped on it. And a 97 further down. I will apologize for disrupting the main message of this thread. Spare parts. I just got courious as to what type build I actually had. Seems I got a very good year of AUG. If I’m not mistaken, Vltor got a manufacturing variance (for Steyr) approved by ATF, and from that point on, didn’t have to engrave their info on the bottom of the receivers anymore. WarDawg, here is my USA-Steyr made receiver. The date-code shows 2021 but I bought the rifle in 2024 (stock has 2023 date code). It looks identical to the other USA-Steyr AUG receivers I have seen from the time period. Attached File Your receiver looks "cleaner" and appears milled vs my cast receiver. I have had zero problems with this rifle in about 1200 rounds. It came with a standard stock configuration but it currently wears a NATO stock I bought to try. |

I was studying your picture of underside vs mine. I then realized what I was seeing. Cast vs forged or billet machined. If I’m wrong about that please say so. There is nothing wrong with Cast. Don’t read into that. All stress is contained in the barrel lock up and bolt carrier unit. The receiver just places it all together. AR 15 is the same thing. Thanks for sharing. It's my understanding that all the USA-Steyr receivers are CAST. Other than the distinctive casting aberrations I do not know of any qualitative difference. The top of the rifle that is visible is beautiful and clean and it's only under the inside that looks "ugly" in a few places. I also remember reading that some other AUG receivers are cast also. Maybe Australian? |
