I have a RWS model 36 and am in need of a solid scope mount. The air gun / .22 mounts gradually move backward with each shot. Not looking to change the rail just find a good mount. I am using a fixed 4x bushnell optic. The RWS mount seems to have mostly good reviews but the negative reviews are more detailed and substantial.

A couple of things.  Your gun can be tamed down a bit just with proper lubrication and some deburring of the internals.  Second, a good one-piece mount like a Sportsmatch/Beeman or BKL will work just fine without the need for a stop pin, at least in my experience.  If your gun has never been torn down from the factory you will find that it is probably dry or almost dry inside.  At the very least, a little spring tar from Maccari or open gear grease, will smooth out the main spring.  Just enough to put a thin coat on the spring.  Then a high moly content grease on the seal and piston bearing surfaces.  Just a thin coat.  You will notice a significant difference right away.  This will help with your scope movement issues and combined with one of the mounts above, you will have no issues at all.  I have done this on all three of my spring guns.  A TX200, a RWS 48 and a Beeman R9.  All wear the same type of mounts without a pin and all of them were tamed with this little bit of maintenance.  You could do a drop in tune kit from Vortek or Macarri which will make the gun a different animal.

Either way you will have a nice rifle that is already nice to begin with.

Thanks for the info. I have not taken the rifle apart and lubrictaed it. I simply assumed that the recoil was going to be too strong for the average scope mounts available. It is a fairly accurate gun to shoot and a lot of fun.

The model 36 images I found show a rail mounted to the receiver.  In that case you can drill and tap a hole in the mount and just put a screw in.  Let the scope mount but up against the screw head and it can not move.

I like Sportsmatch or BKL.  I had to use a BKL on my Diana 54 was it was the only mount I could find with windage and elevation adjustment on the mount.  My Diana was too far regulated down and left to use just scope adjustment.

Believe it or not, these $15 Chinese mounts work fine.

Or, you could spend four times as much and get something just a little bit nicer . . .

Will the medium 3/8" dovetail mount work or does it have to be 11mm?

Some springers have mere suggestions of dovetails, and most mounts have have a bull-nose shape on the clamp edges.  They can barely clamp at all let alone hold a position.  If that is the case you can lap the scope mounts to get a proper grip.

The 3/8 should work fine. I don't know why they describe them that way. I'm pretty sure both of the Leapers mounts are the same. . . . And yes, I've used the 3/8 medium height mount on a number of European airguns with no issues.
