It's an extractor issue. Before sending it in, take the bolt out and stick an empty case under the extractor groove and push down on the ejector. See if there's adequate tension and how well the extractor is grabbing the case. You should also take the extractor off and clean behind it. A small piece of brass shaving could be gunking up the works. If you don't detect any problems in that area on your own, you'll need to contact MSAR. |
| I checked that when I was cleaning it when I came home. The extractor has the rubber ring around the extractor spring and there was nothing under the extractor itself, it was clean. The ejector has a lot of tension on it, I had to give it a good push in order to depress it. It may be getting too much gas as Royarms suggested, I think its cycling too fast and not giving the extractor/ejector time to dispose of the empties. |

I know it sucks to have to send your new toy in and wait for seemingly forever to get it back. If the extractor/ejector move freely with strong springs there isn't much that can go wrong there. The key is the carrier velocity has to be in the acceptable range. They will likely be making an adjustment to the gas key to get you working. It almost seems like they are tuned to run on no oil and a not broken in action, so some end up over gassed when the action is smoothed out. But I could be way off base, who knows.

Do you have a limited edition black STG-556? They had a small batch of the first onees that had some issues just as you described, and they list on their homepage to return them for parts upgrade. [ETA] If you are having issues, best advice is to call. They will likely have you send the rifle in and fix it under warranty. |
