Dumb-ass question: which side gets the little washers?

Hey guys, please help azjeffs out with this. He IM'd me the other day and I thought I would be able to get an answer from one of a few guys here...no luck so far. Truth? I have never, ever, mounted a Sidesaddle on a shotgun. (Don't like them at all)

Thanks!

What type of weapon do you have and brand of saddle?

The side opposite from the SideSaddle. The bolt head side or ejection port side.

USE LOCKTITE(242) ON ALL THE SCREWS!  That's ALL screws!

Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

What type of weapon do you have and brand of saddle?

It's an old 870P and TacStar/Scattergun Tech sidesaddle.

Ikor: Thanks again for your IM.  After mounting and practicing this afternoon I have to agree that it really changes the balance of the weapon.  I think I don't like this thing very much.  Anyone want a once-used sidesaddle for $23 (what I paid for it) ???

Sorry to hear you don't like it. I have 3 shotguns with them(870,500,590). Never really had any problems, except screws loosing.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Loctite is a good idea (blue, not red).  However, DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN the screws which replace the trigger assembly pins!!!  Tighten them down until all the slop is gone and then give them just a smidgen more.  The loctite will hold the screws from backing out, not sheer brute force.  The reason not to ovetighten them is that you can actually bind up the action.  To make sure everything works fine, install the screws with loctite and then work it action a few tmes with dummy rounds to make sure everything is working properly.  If everythign is ok, let the loctite dry overnight and then give the gun a decent shakedown on the range ASAP.

Then repeat this process over and over every time you wish to remove the trigger group (from the Benelli at least.)
Even with locktite, I had the carrier bind up the action of the benelli. Seems that it kept tightening every time during recoil. After about 200 rounds, it locked up and became a single shot.
Promptly removed this POS, and threw it in the parts box.

Save yourself much heartache, and get one of these:

It costs more, but it will actually last. My Tacstar lasted 4 months, or about 2000 - 3000 rounds. If you plan some serious use, get the Mesa model. Plus, they have more options. Your issue with throwing off the balance might be corrected by carrying additional shells on the opposite side like they offer. Or by simply adding a shell carrier on the stock. Most find when they use an offset light, the shells on the side balance out better.
I might canibalize my tacstar and rig up a shell holder on the buttstock. I like the material its made of. Replace the crap nylon one I have.
