What all do you have to do to get a firearm sent through the mail system?  A friend is tyring to send a firearm and they say it has to come from a FFL to a FFL.  Thanks for the help again

Who is `"they"?

Any interstate shipment of a firearm must be sent to an FFL. Some exceptions are made for firearms being returned by a manufacturer to the owner after repair.

Only firearms dealers or manufacturers may use the US Postal Service to mail a handgun. But ANYONE can mail a rifle or shotgun through the USPS, see section 601 para 11.3 of the Domestic Mail Manual: http://pe.usps.com/text/dmm300/601.htm#wp1065404. Dealers & manufacturers must file a USPS Form 1508 when we ship a handgun, there is no special paperwork, forms or hoops to jump through when anyone (dealer or not) ships a long gun.

Need more info.  Is it a non-FFL to non-FFL shipment from one state to another that your friend is trying to arrange?

Again, who is "they"? And what is he trying to send you?

If it is a long gun he can legally mail directly to your FFL. If it is a handgun your friend would need to have his FFL mail to your FFL.

It is a violation of Federal law to mail (USPS) or ship (UPS, FedEx) directly to you.
