Any of you guys have experience shipping a 60? I bought it locally and need to mail it. Any advice on how to pack/box and carrier? Thanks |

If you don't have a plan, you can't change it.

As others said, a pelican style case (the harbor freight ones are strong) inside a cardboard box that is taped well. Place an apple airtag or tile in the case and preferable taped under the handguard, in the stock, etc. If the package is "lost" you can tell the customer service rep exactly where it is. Airtags seem to work better than tile. More updates as they use all iphones in the area |

The value on a transferable ‘60 is near $100,000. If I were shipping one, here’s what I’d do: 1. Buy a proper Pelican or Nanuk case with foam. Ensure the case comes with its original cardboard box. 2. Pluck or otherwise cut out the foam to fit the gun. 3. Insert one tracker (Apple or whatever) somewhere in the case. Insert (tape) another tracker somewhere into the gun itself; taped under hand guards, inside a pistol grip, inside the buttstock… Wherever.* *I’m not up on what’s hollow and what isn’t in what generation of M60. 4. Include the paperwork in the case along with a clear note to call you at x number if this turns up somewhere, at a lost or misdirected package office, etc. 5. Use a combination lock or locks on the case. 6. Ship the gun in the case, which is inside the cardboard box. Call the end Buyer or SOT with the combination and ask them to mail back the trackers when done. You can include a SASE with the gun, but I wouldn’t want to tip off thieves know the trackers are in there. That said, I wouldn’t ship a M60 unless it’s headed to Alaska. It’s too valuable to risk shipping any more. Get it in the case, include the trackers in case it’s stolen, and take it in person to the end buyer or SOT. Then take your trackers and go home. It’s a huge PITA, but this isn’t a $4k or even $40k gun any more. |

When I bought my M60 back in 2008 I put it into a pelican case and then built a wooden shipping crate for the pelican case to go into. However, this was back when you could ship machineguns via Fedex overnight and have it held at the depot for pickup so it never went on the truck for the delivery route. In todays world you are probably going to have to use USPS registered mail as Fedex/UPS don't accept MGs, and that is what I have used for machineguns recently so a wooden crate isn't an option as USPS registered mail the hard case will need to be inside a virgin cardboard box with all of the seams sealed with the water activated glue security tape. I did this shipping a transferable M2HB back in 2024. I would also use a standalone cellular enabled GPS tracker and/or an iTag or Tile as backup hidden inside the gun itself. Personally I use both a standalone cellular enable GPS tracker so I am not 100% reliant on cell phones being nearby for location updates as well as a Tile bluetooth tracker hidden inside the gun itself. The one benefit of a Tile over iTag is that if the package is stolen the odds of somebody using a "find an itag app" and discarding the itag is a lot higher than somebody finding a hidden Tile tracker. Depending upon your insurance needs USPS Registered mail tops out at $50K so you will need insurance through another provider to cover a transferable M60. I would personally be hard pressed today to ship a M60 though. I have considered getting my personal M60 (RIA registered channel) completely rebuilt by US/Dessert Ord and when looking at the transport options the most palatable was to drive to from Austin to Dallas, get a direct flight from Dallas to Reno, and then drop in off in person and fly back home. Once it was done fly back to Reno, pick it up and then a direct flight back to Dallas and then drive the rest of the way home. Ultimately I ended up just buying the E6 kit from US Ord and having the kit shipped to me as I didn't have the time it would take to do the drive/flight. I could always do the E4 to E6 upgrade myself as its all bolt on parts. Maybe if I retire in a couple years I may get the receiver rebuilt with a new US Ord trunnion, rails, etc. |

| Place it in a Pelican case with an Apple air rag. Zip tie the case closed at the lock points. Pack in a double thick wall cardboard box. Tape the seams and edges per USPS registered mail requirements. List the full value of the gun at the time of shipping and insure for the highest value allowed by USPS ($50k I believe). Ship registered priority express mail. Some usps centers will tell you you can’t use priority with registered mail, but you absolutely can. And be sure to add the gun to your insurance policy, making sure it is covered if lost in transit. |
| As others have said, this is something you should be delivering yourself. Last December I took the 10-hour trip from SE Wisconsin to Alabama to pick up a basically brand-new Springfield M1903 National Match rifle from 1919. Not nearly as valuable as a M-60 but I just can no longer trust UPS, FedEx or USPS to ship anything. |
