I posted this here because I figured I would get more traffic, Mods if it is in the wrong spot please move.

I have a Marlin 336C that I wanted to set up as a scout gun, but I'm finding that I'm not the biggest fan of this style. I put XS ghost ring sights and the Scout rail on and then mounted the Burris 2-7x32 Pistol scope with an illuminated reticle. In hindsight I wish I had gone with the standard XS rail that has the integrated rear sight, but being that the ghost ring on mine is secured with red loctite that's no longer really an option.

What I would like to do is either get a scope with typical eye relief and use a cantilever style mount to get it back far enough. Or get a scope with an eye relief of 4-6" and just mount it as far back on the rail as it will go. I have tried the latter with my current scope and the eyepiece comes just to the end of the receiver so I think it's something definitely doable.

However, I'm having problems locating a scope with that eye relief distance, or a cantilever scope mount designed to bring the optic back instead of forward.

Anybody tried something similar or know better where to look?

ETA: It's a weaver style base which is what complicates things

Your pistol scope has an ideal eye relief of 20"
It is meant to be use on a pistol, held arms length away from your eye.

You will be better off with a purpose built scout scope like one of these Leopold scout scopes that have an eye relief of 8-9".  Mounted as low as possible, they are the best bet for a lever gun.

The eye relief with the Burris is good, I have it mounted pretty far out on the scout rail and have a good sight picture. I just don't like having a scope way out there and am trying to get a more traditional scope set-up with what I have available.
