If this is in the wrong forum, mods please move it. About 20 years ago I had a Remington classic in .300 Wby. Mag. I sold it for some reason. At any rate, I am buying a .300 Win Mag. why? Just because. My old gun had a Burris scope on it, that stayed sighted in while I owned it and for the guy I sold it too, until he dropped the rifle and broke the scope. (long story). Anyway, I would like recomendations for a scope for my .300 Win Mag. I don't plan on shooting it a lot, & probably won't hunt with it. I might like to do a little distance shooting with it from time to time. I am open to suggestions for a scope. There are so many, and I don't want a piece of junk, but I don't want to break the bank either. I am thinking Leupold, Redfield, Weaver, Bushnell, etc. Open to suggestions.

Thanks,
Mark

What is your budget and what kind of distance are you looking to shoot it at?

I don't want to spend a fortune, but am thinking around $400, give or take.  Range, maybe 500 yards or less.  This is kind of like a new toy.
Thanks,

I know the VX2 is a good scope for the money. What is so wrong with the VX1? If your answer is going to be it is a piece of junk, I want to know why you think that. I doubt it is as clear as a VX2, but what else. I seem to recall having one on a .270 once, had it sighted in to 300 yds. It seemed to hold it's sight in point ok. Didn't shoot it alot, but don't plan on shooting this new gun a lot either. I don't have to have MOA accuracy. 6" at 300 or 400 yards would be ok with me. What about other brands like Weaver, Redfield, (made by Leupold), Nikon, and others?

Thanks,
Mark

You can get a VX-2 in The $400 dollar range you specified so why not go with it vs the VX-1. That's why I went that route. I have a 2-7 Redfield Revolution, a couple of Weavers and they are not bad.

Point taken. I guess a cheap front blew through. I'll go with one of the VX 2 scopes. I think. Thanks.

All of the brands (Leupold, Weaver, Redfield, Burris, Nikon, Bushnell) you've mentioned have solid options. I have a Bushnell 3200 Elite on one of my hunting rifles and a Leupold Rifleman on the other. I also have Pentax, Weaver and other Bushnell scopes I am happy with.
