So according to the rules, if you form 1 an SBR, it says you should engrave the receiver with the location where it was made. Well what if.... You put the lower and upper together in your car while visiting another city in your state? Could I say it was made in: Spook City, CO Last Chance, CO Dinosaur, CO ? Seems like we've been missing an opportunity here. |

It does matter, or did at least. Back 10yrs or so ago WA state legalized SBRs, but there were verbiage issues in the new law that missed the "making" part. So you could own one, just not make it in the state. My trust has a WA address. The ATF makes clear you have to put down where it was initially made, even if it's not where you reside. Ok cool, I filed a F1 with my WA trust address, and a "making" location of Portland OR. Didn't fly, got rejected with the reason listed as something to the effect of making SBRs not legal in WA state. |
| We’ve actually had a few of these threads with people doing exactly what you suggest. It’s all so silly. The engraving requirement is dumb. Let me pay the tax and write down existing info. Eliminate the makers marking requirements. |

If that's not the state you reside in you will have to submit a 5320.20 to get interstate transfer approval after making it to bring it to another state (presumably to bring it to your home state). This can be a temporary visit or a permanent change of address. ETA: Whatever address you put on the form 1 is where you will make it. But that doesn't have to be your primary domicile. |

Thread resurrection. I have 3 approved Form 1 AR15 SBR's I need to engrave. I decided I dont want to use my current city I reside in and want to use a different one. Can I email or write the ATF a letter letting them know I will be making and thus marking the lower in a different city than the one I used for the approved F1? |

Hmm waiting on a form 1 now and debating on submitting a few more with current brace shenanigans. Hopeulikit, GA (hope you like it) I also have the option of Balls Ferry, Boneville, or Cumming. |
