I've got a suppressed Ruger 77/22 needing a little extra attention. When I chamber a round, the last 1/4" is a real chore to close the bolt on. The bolt closes easily on an empty chamber. Could lead fouling be the cause? If so, what's the best stuff on the market for removing lead fouling? Thanks.

You may be able to see the lead ring in the chamber if it is present. Strong solvent made for lead removal and a brush, bronze. Try to let the solvent do the work as the chamber is your friend. Must have a lot of rounds thru that one.

IF you are not the first owner, my guess is shorts or longs were fired in the LR chamber.

What type of ammo are you using? Some kinds of target ammo have alot of the waxy lube on the bullet that builds up in the chamber after awhile.

Here's the situation:

I bought the rifle new from a local dealer a few years ago. I ended up selling it NIB to a coworker, who ended up selling it NIB to another coworker a few months later. This last owner did fire it though. I know that he likes the Aguila powderless shells, as he lives inside city limits. I talked him into selling me back my old rifle, since I wanted to set up a suppressed .22LR bolt-action. I have been using the CCI subsonic ammo, and it has always been hard to chamber. I haven't tried any other ammunition, therefore I really don't know if that ammo is just different somehow and chambers tightly, of if some other factor is the cause. All I had handy last night was BreakFree CLP, so I scrubbed the heck out of the chamber with a brass brush. I'll have to try to pick up some ammo soon to see if that fixed it, as I am currently out.

Thanks.

The kids on the high school rifle team I coach are using CCI standard velocity right now. It is pretty hard to close the bolt on most of the guns (anschutz 1903s) Try some other ammo and see if that helps. I bet it will.
