I just picked up a Rossi M95 in 454 casull, very nice gun, but looking it over shows that it is pretty much a Copy of a Marlin action, I read many times that the Marlin Action could not handle the high pressures generated by the 454 & other heavy pistol rounds.
So how did Rossi do it?

Shoot it awhile using full power loads and get back to us on how it's holding up.

I'm assuming it'll also take .45 Colt brass and loads and if so, I'd bet that is what most people will use.

I imagine most people don't do this due to the price of 454 Casull ammo, and the punishment of shooting it in a light rifle.

But I want a 454 Casull lever action really bad to pair it up with my Super Redhawk.

Is it a rifle length Marlin 95 receiver or a shortened Marlin 95 receiver (like the Henry and S&W revolver caliber guns, also Rossi 95 .357s and .44s)?

Nothing but the best gunsmiths and materials:)

I too am curious to see how it holds up after 1 - 200 rds.

Does it cycle both casual and 45 colt ok?

I bought an R92 in .45lc/.454 Casull in 2007. It works flawlessly.  Honestly, I mostly use .45 as .454 is not needed  for the N FL deer.

Also, .454 out of such a light rifle is not a lot of fun.

Do you mean R95?
I was literally coming here to ask about the R95 in 454 and see if anyone had one and how it cycled 45LC ammo. Really wanting a R95 with wood, threaded barrel, in 45LC but they dont make one so I was exploring the 454 options.
Ranger point precision did a good walkthrough of the R95, explaining on how Rossi has improved upon the 336 action.

I own the 45 Colt version (trapper)

I'll try to post pics later.
So far what I have noticed.

Fit and Finish is near perfect.
Action is smooth as glass
Accuracy seems good, with one consideration.
It shoots way low.  I'm going to have to swap the front sight most likely.
The only real negative is it is so slick it takes very little pressure for the lever to open.  I'm not a fan of that.

If you don't hold it down for the fifth cartridge it may spring open.  At this point I have no plans to send it back I've just gotten used to holding th lever down when I load the last couple in. Once in it stays closed pretty well.

I’m looking at getting one in 45 Colt.  I handled a 30.30 one in a store last year and it seemed like a good gun.  My LGS is getting the 45 for me to look at it.  You’ve been pleased with yours?

There is a big thread on this on levergunscommunity

If you compare the frames you will see that the 454 frame has a lot more meat at the front and rear.   I have about 500 rounds on mine and it is still running strong.   I also shoot A LOT of 45 colt +p+ through it.  Typically the 300 grain xtps at 1650 fps.   That load is an absolute hammer on deer and bears.   It will turn a coyote inside out 🤣

LGS has a R95 triple black in 454 for $850. Good buy at that price?

Mine has helded up outstandingly, since 2007.  Granted 80% of the rounds are .45 LC.  But it handles the 454 rounds just fine.  Except the recoil is not my shoulders friend.

ETA sorry, sort of repeated what I already said.

I purchased a NIB Rossi R92 in 454 Casull a couple of years ago. Right out of the box, it wouldn't cycle anything. Not A Zoom snap caps, .45 Colt or .454 Casull cartridges. I was going to send it back to Rossi but after hearing horror stories about their customer service, I decided to work on it myself. Being retired, I have more time than money, so I disassembled the thing right down to the barreled action. With stones and various grits of sand paper I polished every part until it ran as slick as oiled glass. Changed all the spring as well. It runs everything I put in it now.

I think some people are confusing the Rossi 92 .454, which seems to still be a true 92-

with the newer Marlin 1895ish style .454-

Ignoring the fact that the bottom is a mares leg pistol (they don't currently list a 1895 .454 rifle), the former is a Winchester action and the latter a shortened Marlin style action, like the pistol caliber Henry's and S&W's as well as Rossi's own pistol caliber 1895s.

Here's a Rossi 95 .45-70, note the longer length receiver, I chose the mares leg for the larger image-

So I guess we're down to semantics and guesswork about a shortened Marlin 1895 receiver being up to .454. There have been Marlin 1894/336 (can't remember which) conversions which didn't work well, the earlier Rossi 1892 .454s are said to had issues but they have, supposedly, been improved.
Winchester 92s are said to be stronger than the square bolt Marlin 1894s, but are they also stronger than shortened Marlin 1895s? 😵

I don't have any good info about answering the OPs question.

I wouldn't give much of anything for most Rossi pistols.

I have a fairly old 357/38 That seems to be a decent gun . About a year ago I bought a stainless Rossi lever in 44 mag. Somewhat surprised how much harder the recoil is than my JM Marlin cowboy model . Pretty nice gun , had to do a bit of work on the loading gate because as it come it would pretty much bite your fingers

I have one from the original run that has close to 5,000 rounds through it.   However, its all 45 colt +p+ lpads, right at the precipice of.crossing over to 454 casull.   The recoil is fearsome, even with a decellerator pad.   I like letting friends shoot it 🤣

I appreciate it though. I have around maybe 1200-1400 rounds of .454 and several K of .45 colt [I used to get fantastic deals on both from a vendor at the end of the year. [like $12 a box of Win .45 colt and the same $12 for a box [20 rounds] of 240-260 grain XTP .454 plus I acquired a lot of different factory stuff cheap thruout the years including Freedom Arms brand 50 round boxes.

I just have my RSRH and a Colt .45 I shoot left but a rifle would be nice if it works decently.

I’ve read numerous times over the years on several forums that the Rossi guns don’t hold up well to a steady diet of .454. Internet lore or not, that’s a lot of pressure for a lever action design. Hell, that’s a lot of pressure for any design.

You talking about the gun, or OP's shoulder?

Yes, I failed to state the model.  I'm looking for a R95 stainless with laminated stock.

I shoot a freedom arms .454. I’ve been thinking about getting a lever action in same caliber for obvious reasons. I carry mine in bear country. Having a carbine would be nice.
I started loading for the 454. Still working on the crimp to stop bullet creep.
Looking forward to hearing about OPs experience with this rifle.

On Saturday I picked up my new Rossi R95 Trapper with 16.5" barrel.  I shoot a Freedom Arms 83 in .454 Casull with a 4 3/4" barrel so I felt it needed a friend.  As I own various Henry, Marlin and Ruger/Marlins lever actions I am familiar with quality and performance issues. I am very pleased with the quality of the metal finish and wood which is labeled blackwood.  A lot of naysayers are really down on Rossi and of course may have had a bad experience or are in general negative Nellie's.

I mounted a Leupold 1x4x20 VX-II in Leupold Rifleman GEN II rings in medium height on a Monstroum picatinny rail.  I managed to get out this morning to the range in the back pasture even though it was very wet and humid.  The rains have been daily and given us enough moisture.

The loads were handloads of Speer Deep curls in 250 grain.  They had no problem feeding and extracting.  The distance was only 35 yards as the pasture is extremely wet and mushy.  I plan to shoot further distances when the ground dries a bit.

Here is some info;

The last two shots are the top ones after my last adjustment.
