Hi! I am looking to build a replica civil war black powder cannon. I sort of want the satisfaction of building it myself. Does anyone have a suggestion for a cost effective steel, with enough tensile strength to handle the PSI needed for firing projectiles? Also preferably that can be easily rifled? Thanks! |

I cast a lot of iron, but this was my art school opus. I made a pattern then a mold and cast it a GA State university. It’s about 350#s and shoots golf balls with black powder. What size are you intending to make? I can cast you a brass blank that you can finish machine. I have made several signal sized barrels that are much smaller and have two patterns that you can bore if you have the means. Message me if you want and I can tell you what I know. Might help, might not. lol. |
