Over the past two years I had a few commercial receivers built up on Criterion barrels and random parts. Two Plainfield receivers that Orest sold me years ago as one-off items, and a late RIA (inc) receiver out of Larry Ruth’s collection. Fulton barreled and headspaced all the receivers/barrels/bolts, two of which were brand new underwood bolts still in the original wrap, and did a full buildup on one of them while I finished the others with various parts I had lying around. I put them in various commercial and milsurp stocks. Then I promptly got too busy to ever test them. Today that changed and I got a chance to try them out. Attached File From a very wobbly sandbag rest both of the Plainfields were tack drivers and I got them dialed in nicely. The RIA, which of course was cast on a mold that was near the end of its life, didn’t do so hot. The slide runs rough and it did not want to go into battery - the bolt stops as it begins rotating into battery. I had several rounds where the primer popped out on ejection. I’m thinking the slide may need replacement so I’m going to swap it out and try again. |
