I'm putting together a rifle for a buddy in Iceland and he can only find exporters that charge 250 -500 dollars per gun plus some want 5% of the value of the gun. I'm a Class 1 FFL and was wanting some feedback on getting a Export license? Anyone know cost or have some first hand knowledge? Just wondering if its worth my time.

| It's an expensive proposition to do it commercially. You first have to be registered with the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) at about $1700 a year. You'll need on-line verification of your signature for another couple hundred every two years then go through the (AES, etc.) export/import process for the given country. It's cheaper and a lot less headaches if you're only doing one or two guns to use an Exporter. Penalties for messing up can be bad. |
