I bought a GSG5 a few days ago from AIM surplus. Along with the gun I purchased 2 of the Promag 22rd mags.

I took the gun out to shoot for the first time today. After loading up my 10rd mag and the 2 promags with Remington golden bullets, I did a quick check of the gun and loaded it up. The 10rd mag went first and it work flawlessly. That mag came out and the first of the promags went in. First shot good, second shot good, third shot good, 4th FTE, 5th jam, 6th jam, and so on. Sometimes I could pull out the jammed round and cycle a new one and it would work but then the next shot wouldnt. So looking at the round, you can see that they are getting scraped on the bottom of the breech. The angle of the round going into the barrel looks too high. When you look at the bullets they are scraped on the bottom.

I have some pictures that I will post later on tonight.

EDIT: I used the 10rd mag for the rest of the day and it work perfectly.

I have been pleased with half the promags i have and pissed at the other half.........if for some reason i had to put my life on the line with a gsg, no ?'s asked the 10 rd one is the only one that no crap never once has had a FTF. If i had only a promag.....i'd strongly consider taking my chances and chunking the whole gun at the zombie!

Call ProMag and talk to Eric, ask for replacement springs. In the mean time, pull off the bottom of the mag, the spring will pull right out, stretch it out about 2", reinsert spring, reattach bottom. I verified yesterday for myself that this works.

Nice tip.....i have been thinking it might be the springs given on the ones that suck of mine the spring appeared to not so much bent but curved wrongly.

Here are some of the promised pics, about 24 hours late.

I will give eric a call at promag and see what can be done. If he recommends stretching the springs, I will try it. I dont want to void the warranty.

The stock magazine is on the far left. It doesnt look the the rounds sit high enough in the other mags.

It also looks like there are some marks in the magazine after only 10 or so shots.

Here are some of the mess up rounds after getting jammed in the gun.

One thing i can say for sure...its the mag that causes that sweet delicious apricot jam.  My personal opinion is the problem with these ftf's is not so much the spring imho but rather i think the followers that have to much gradient cause the rounds to "tombstone"  i think that im gonna try to level the follower a little bit.

Nice pouch!

I see one problem with your ProMags that I had also.In your third picture you will see see a plastic bump or molding tit if you will. that was not removed at the ProMag factory. It sits just inside & under the feed lips on the ejection side of the mag. If you look at a factory magazine you will not see this. This bump holds the back of the shell casing down causing the bullet head to rise. I removed these "very carefully" with my dremal on slow speed. Then my Promags started feeding properly.
Mine were doing the same thing yours are but work fine now.

T problem is with the golden bullet. they will not feed in my gsg, 10/22, or 22/45. i had the same issue with them scraping like that and jamming. i have since shot through over 1500 rounds of fed bulk and not had but a couple of jambs.

The golden bullets fed fine using the 10rd mag. I fired off a brick only using the 10rd mag and had 1 FTF. I dont think the ammo is the issue in this case. I think it is specifically the magazines.

I called and spoke with Eric at Promag (thanks for the tip VinnAY). He is sending me new springs. Since that is the case I am going to try stretching the springs I have in there now.

If they dont work I will grind down the thingers (very technical term).

I went shooting yesterday and keep track of which mags I was using when I had FTFs.  The 2 stock gsg mags had none, and I had 3 FTFs with the 2 Promags.  I just stretched out the springs, so I will see if that helps.  If I get replacement springs from promag, should they be as long as the ones I have now before or after I stretched them?

edit - I should have mentioned I am shooting Remington Golden Bullets (36 grain)

they should be the same length as the GSG mag springs.

I think it's kinda sad folks are going to all the trouble with these pro mags when just trying to save a few dollars over the factory ones. If I bought a new mag and had to call in for a spring replacement that would be a red flag to me, especially with all the problems you guys are having.

I totally agree.I bought three proMags and have had ftf's with them all but none with my 4 factory mags. It's just not worth it to me just to save a few bucks and put up with sub standard mags. Never again.

I agree to a point. but someone made a mistake and used the wrong springs for the mags, big deal mistakes happen. ProMag is holding up to their end and making it right. They could have told me to go fuck myself.
So i make a 5 min phone call and wait a few days for some springs to come in the mail. If i can get 6 ProMags for the same price as 3 factory mags, im happy. With the correct spring, they work just like my factory mags.
I dont shoot everyday, nor do i need to keep all of my GSG mags loaded incase a hoard of zombie squirles attack.

I would buy Promags again.

I bought the mag, had an issue and called them. They agreed to send me new springs and were pleasant to deal with. No complaints here.

For half price I'll put up with needs a little work. And that's IF you get a bad one, even then it takes about 5 min to stretch a spring.

I had lots of troubles with one of three Promags and even experienced a round that fired that obviously wasn't seated in the chamber all the way, I got a loud strange report when it fired and smoke from then action and when It didn't eject I manually cycled it and found the shell split open horizontally just above the rim on one side. I think I still have it out in my shop. I will try to post a pic.
