In the "What did you do in the world of reloading thread" medicman5000 posted a primer alarm for the LNL AP.
I have the Dillon converted alarm from in line, but medicman's is a much simpler design, so I tried a slight variation of his design. The part that makes it work is when the weighted white rod is in the primer tube it locks the primer slide back on empty by falling into the vacant primer hole. Parts are a small project box, a small buzzer, 9 volt battery hook up, small trip switch and a bracket made from an Arco bin. Here it is before being installed. 
Here it is installed under the mounting bolt of the in line mount. This is the position the primer slide comes down when it has primers in it. 
This is the position when the primer tube is empty. The locked back slide activates the switch and buzzer. The buzzer and box containing the 9 volt battery are just velcroed under neath the mount out of view. (The other wires are power for lights, case feeder, bullet feeder, case counter, and Dillon trimmer.) 
When the primer slide is empty and the press handle is pushed into the priming position the roller of the slide activates the buzzer signifying no primer. The alarm goes off/stops sounding when the handle is released from the priming position since the base plate rises just enough to release the switch. This keeps the buzzer from becoming annoying. Thanks for starting a new thread to discuss the modification instead of hijacking the other thread. That's how it's done folks. I'm going to set the archive toggle on this thread. So this thread will always show up in "My Topics" for RLR350. For everyone else, the thread will eventually end up on the last 5 or 6 pages of this forum with the other toggled threads. As long as there are primers in the tube the primer slide keeps moving back and forth feeding a new primer each time the handle is cycled. This completely misses the micro switch. When the last primer is fed the primer slide goes to the rear on the next cycle of the handle as normal, but since there is no primer the white rod falls into the primer hole located on the slide.. The white rod then keeps the slide from moving forward - it stays locked to the rear in a position that activates the micro switch as seen in the last picture. If you don't use the white rod in the primer tube this won't work. The slide will just keep going back and forth missing the switch. If you don't have the rod you could probably make one. The dimensions are 7/64" round by 16" long. |

So I was posed with the question, "What if the primer slide jams up only a little bit back? I wont activate your buzzer." This got me thinking and here is the revision I made on mine.....

The buzzer will now activate if the slide jams in any position other then all the way forward. |

No, the rest of the press still functions and indexes as normal, except you will not be getting any primers. I can usually tell by the feel on the end of the stroke when there are no more primers No resistance from primer seating), but back when I was still learning the ins and outs of the LNL AP, there were some times where I missed it and had a few completed rounds get by without primers, so the idea of the alarm is great IMO. |
