There is a local guy that powder coats firearms.  I've seen samples of their work at gun shows and the finished product looks good.  

I'm wondering just how durable this would be on a firearm.  I don't see any references to this type of refinishing here so I'm inclined to believe it must not be a first choice.

I've got a Rem 700 sps with Remington's cheap matte finish.  I made the mistake of leaving it in my pick up in a case for a week in the Arkansas humidity and it took me all night to get the surface rust off.  I've got to have a more durable finish.

Powder coat can be very hard and resistant...it's just to thick for many applications is why you do not see it more...my guess anyway.
