Hi all,
I've looked over the years at replacing the bolt in my Poly M14/s but have put it off due to the fact that I just don't shoot it all that much and afik, the H/S is still good.  Well, when I had it out the last time, it started to pop primers and that was the end of that.  I've had had the head space checked (with what I suspect was a .308 gauge) and the report was ITS BAD.  Anyway, for piece of mind and for the long term, who does the hive recommend to replace a bolt these days.  Fulton and SEI used to do it but it's not on either website any more.

Come on fella's, help a brother out.

thanks,
ka

Warbirds did mine. Excellent job. And fair priced. Had him weld up my op rod tab and screw on a new barrel as well. He reparked it and it looks great and shoots great as well. He is in Texas as well.

As YoteSlayer posted, check out Warbird. Have him give your rifle a complete rework. There are several other improvements he makes that will add to the overall performance of your rifle. You will be pleased with the outcome.

OP...

How many rounds and  what is your SN# range on your speciman?

Just curious b/c you are the first, first hand experience I've seen verifying the issue. I have a Poly with about 200 rds thru it...

My Poly is S/N 128!!

Its an early one to say the least.  I bought it in a pawn shop back in '96.  Since then, I've put probably 1500rnds through it.  Not a lot but then again, 7.62 is getting expensive to shoot.  Now that I'm ready to reload 7.62, I want to get back into the M14 platform but need to get the bolt issue taken care of.

To those who responded, who is this Warbird character and how do I get ahold of him?  I'd like to do this soon but I kind of balk at paying Fulton $400 to put a $200 bolt into a $700 rifle.

Thanks for the help guys and when I figure out how to post pice, I'll post a few of my Chicom classic

Waiting to hear back from Warbird.  If any of y'all have a bolt that you'd like to get rid of, email or IM me.  Those things are getting scarce.

From Warbird's site  http://www.warbirdscustomguns.com/Rifle%20Shop%20services.htm

Convert Chinese Norinco or Polytech receiver for USGI bolt  $125.

Chinese bolt conversion requires refinishing the barreled receiver, no exceptions.

Refinish barreled receiver with mil-spec parkerizing  $75.

So, I have to ask, why doesn't he just say the conversion costs $200?

Warbird did mine.   Very awesome guy    I got in line, when he said ship it, I shipped.  Was in his shop less than a week and it was back to me.  Can't beat service like that.

You don't have to repark it... Thats why... Some folks want to duracoat it or something else after the fact.
