I am having an issue with the retainer pin that keeps the Op Rod Spring Guide in place. Is there anything that can be done to keep this from happening?

When slide the bolt to the rear the op rod spring guide comes loose.

I can provide pictures if needed.

Do you have a Chinese made M14 style rifle?  If so, is it in a USGI stock?  If that is the case, the USGI stocks are cut for the USGI pin, which is longer.  You can put a blog of epoxy in the stock to keep the pin from working loose.  Or, glue/epoxy a popsycle stick into the stock.

Did you recently change stocks? As already stated, the stock keeps the connector pin from backing out. If the pin was modified for a glass bedded stock, then it may have been cut flush and bedding compound would have been added to the stock to keep it from backing out.

I switched to a polymer stock I will take a look at that and yes it is a chinese model.

can the Chinese pin be replaced with a USGI pin?

Chinese pins are usually smaller, so a USGI pin will not fit into the hole.

i have a usgi pin in my chinese gun.   the difference between the O.D.'s of the pins is minimal.   i chucked mine up in a cordless drill and took 180 grit sand paper to it (both sides) for a few minutes and it fit just fine.   i was contemplating putting it in a lathe until i realized how close in diameter they were.   honestly, i wouldnt be afraid to drill the receiver larger either, considering the location, but it was easier to modify the pin.   cheaper too, if you mess up.

It's called the connector lock pin

Claude at RA parts has them too. He lists them as thed connector lock.

I don't know where to find the Chinese versions. The ones I listed are American.

Here's what I did to my new Boyd's M14 stock when I dropped-in my Polytech M14S action.  Epoxied in a small steel block to  catch the pin.  This little block keeps the retainer pin from drifting out and releasing the spring guide rod.

how thick is that block?
