I am trying to help a friend identify what kind of choke his Remington 870 has in it.  It was originally a standard barrel that was modified to accept thread in chokes.  The only thing we can't figure out is what kind of choke it accepts.  He has tried Mossberg and Remington chokes with no luck, and whatever else the Gander Mt. by him may have had on the shelves.  They could not find any thing that would fit, but he didn't say if anything looked close.  As far as the fit goes, I don't know how many different possibilities there could be, but there has to be something compatible.  I have a couple pics of the choke that was removed from the 870 if that helps at all.  All I have been able to come up with so far is that the thread pitch is relatively 54 tpi.

Looks to me like a Browning Invector choke. Be warned though, they make an Invector, and an Invector Plus.

The one you have pictured looks like the regular invector

If I remember correctly, the FN SLP takes the invector choke, so anybody with one of those could possily confirm my guess.

The Invector tube is 32 tpi just like the Remington (its just a shorter tube)

Your tube looks kinda like a Tru-choke tube. The standard Tru-choke tube is .795” in diameter and 44 tpi. The Tru-Choke Thinwall tube is .775” and 44 tpi.

Thanks for the replies fellas.

Guncat,  The .795 diameter sounds about right on the choke.  But the threads on this one are for sure finer than 44 tpi.  My thread pitch gauge only goes up to 44 tpi so I am certain.  I counted them manually and came up with roughly 54 tpi.  I am going to head out today and see if I can match it up with anything.

Tru-Choke is a common style for converting old shotguns. Look at that style.
