After modifying the tailfin of an M720 HE round, I thought that I'd opened up the gas ports enough in the M27 tailfin to keep it from exploding like the last test. Negative: This didn't work. Not only did I ruin another tailfin (which blew up in the barrel) but lost the HE round body in the woods. In case you are wondering- 75 grains of Titewad is too much with aluminum tailfins. ETA: I found the HE body today. Walked right past it yesterday as it was getting dark. Positive: An adapter I created for firing illuminating parachute flares out of the 60mm mortar worked very well.
